Pioneer Day Parade to Feature Seventies Theme in Eldora
Eldora hosts the 1970 Pioneer Day Parade on Friday June 26 at 6 30 pm starting from Eldora Playground park. Grand marshal J D Leonard and State Senator James A Polgeter lead a lineup of dignitaries as the town showcases improvements and hosts a public open pit barbecue street dance and water fight. Smokey the Bear Graces the program with Master of Ceremonies Dr W G Tietz, parade unit color guard and Eldora High School band. 75 Year Club guests with reserved seats attend near the reviewing stand while the day closes with a barbecue and a community water fight on nearby streets followed by a dance and live music by the Just Us group.

Adult Swimmer Classes Begin Monday June 22
Eldora Municipal Swimming Pool manager Andrew Hauser announced adult swimming classes start Monday June 22 at 6 p.m. and run weekdays through Friday July 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. Hauser is the instructor. The intermediate class starts Monday July 13 and ends Friday July 31, with sessions Monday through Friday requiring some proficiency in beginning swimming techniques.

632 Youngsters in Red Cross Swim Classes
A total of 632 area youngsters participate in Red Cross swim programs at Eldora Union and Hubbard pools. Eldora reports 200 from Eldora 75 from Steamboat Rock Owasa area with a wading pool class starting June 29. Union pool has 210 youngsters with 64 from Whitten 55 from New Providence and 29 from Bangor. Hubbard pool lists 150 participants with July 6 start for Radcliffe Zearing and Garden City.

School Cook Mrs Thornton Retires After 25 Years at Hubbard
Emma Thornton, 72, retires after 25 years as Hubbard School lunch cook. She began in 1945 as assistant to head cook Lucile Gerlach, became head cook in 1945, and saw the lunch program grow from about 100 to over 400 participants.
