Steamboat Rock Leads Hardin County Tax Levy Increases

Hardin County Auditor Jerry Pence released 1977-78 tax levies showing Steamboat Rock city with the highest rate at 12.944 per 1000, up 9.7 percent from last year, followed by Iowa Falls at 11.667, up 14.5 percent. Alden dropped 4.5 percent to 11.435, and Buckeye remains lowest at 7.029. School taxes also show Steamboat Rock highest at 12.993 per 1000, up 19.4 percent from last year, with Eldora fifth at 10.913 and Radcliffe lowest at 7.297, while NESCO and Roland Story districts span Hardin county.

Open House at First Federal in Eldora Namesake Change

First Federal Savings and Loan of Eldora hosts an open house on Sunday June 26 and Monday and Tuesday June 27 28 to celebrate renaming Nevada Federal to First Federal. Hours 12 noon to 5 pm Sunday and 9 am to 4 pm other days with prizes free gifts and refreshments. Attendees include local residents and officials such as John McCarville and various named community figures.

Foreign visitors tour Eldora livestock facilities tour

Visitors from Czechoslovakia were escorted through Eldora sites including Confinement Livestock Systems United Suppliers and International Boar Semen. The group, led by Ken Leply and joined by university and ministry officials, toured Eldora and Eagle Grove after lunch. Over 500 foreign visitors have toured local plants since July 1 1976.

Marshalltown Couple Buys Mr. B's Here

A Marshalltown couple, Herman and Norma Hauser, took over Mr. B's Restaurant in Eldora on Friday June 17, buying the business from Lauria Halsey. They plan to move to Eldora soon while keeping Marshalltown residence, and intend to stay long term. The Hausers, formerly Lennox Industries workers, have five children and future plans remain indefinite. Eldora City Council will meet June 27 at 7 p.m. to respond to alleged sale of machinery to the city violating Iowa code 362.6.

Eldora City Plans Public Auction Of Dump Property

Eldora city council, Monday, set a public auction for the remaining dump land with two forms offered, fence or no fence, tentatively August 19 at 2 p.m. at the site. The meeting also approved a street completion with Steve Stonebrook and authorized seal coating, plus parcels sold in Greer's Addition, and hiring an inspector for the 1977 street project. A cigarette permit for Eldora Hotel, refuse permit for Joe Knight, cable burial for General Telephone on Highway 175, and next meeting July 11 noted.

Hardin County approves deputies salaries and budget changes

Hardin County Board of Supervisors approves 1977 78 salaries for deputies and county staff. Appoints Pamela Berends and others in the sheriff's department. Also amends 1976 77 budget increasing several funds and approves group life insurance for full time employees. Includes carpet bid for jail and new care facility rates.
