Booster Club seeks Queen Candidates for UW area

A Miss Union-Whit ten will represent Hardin county at the Hardin County Fair Queen contest in July. The Union Booster Club sponsors the Union Whit ten queen contest and seeks local businesses to sponsor candidates. Eligible girls are ages 16 to 21 and unmarried. A panel will judge poise personality appearance leadership citizenship and talent. Entries contact Mrs. Craig Anderson Mrs. Ed Biersborn or Mrs. Harold Vaux.

Steamboat Rock Plans 1973 Revenue Sharing Allocation

Steamboat Rock mayor Or ville Asher announced the first half 1973 revenue sharing distribution totaling 2,497 dollars. Of this, 685 dollars support the Steamboat Public Library, 31,539 dollars go to the public safety fund for equipment, and 223 dollars fund recreation construction.

Eldora Ambulance Fund Drive Advances in Community Push

A series of report meetings continues on Eldora's ambulance fund drive with a six pm session Friday June 15 in Hardin County Savings Bank community room. Letters went to residents and rival neighbors seeking individual gifts as Harris Luiken chairs a Steam Boat Rock drive. Cash near 8000 with pledges around 11000 must be paid by August 1. Ambulance study committee will meet to choose vehicle type. A modular unit will appear on Eldora courthouse square July 11 during Chamber Crazy Day. Contributions via clipped coupons from Tuesday Herald Ledger to Eldora City Hall. Fire Destroys 3 Buildings on Jass Farm Northeast of Alden

High winds fueled a Sunday blaze at Herman and William Jass farm northeast of Alden destroying three buildings. Firemen reported about 11 p.m. and stayed until early morning. The structures held 9,100 bushels of corn plus tools and fencing. damage estimate unavailable. Fire units from Alden and volunteers from Iowa Falls and Buckeye aided.

Wellsburg Church to observe centennial date

Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church northeast of Wellsburg marks 100 years since founding with a June 24 program. Morning worship at 10 will feature centennial sermon by Dr. Donald Arthur, Waterloo District superintendent, and dedication of church improvements. Afternoon address at 2 30 by Dr. Leonard Denver, Knoxville pastor, with greetings from former pastors and members.

United Eggs Plans Second 50,000-Bird Chicken House

United Eggs Inc of Eldora announces a second 50 thousand bird laying house to be built south of the current facility near Eldora. The 44 by 628 foot metal clad building with 15 foot walls costs about 150 thousand dollars and will enlarge capacity to 100 thousand laying hens. Construction begins within weeks and should finish by October 1. The birds will be cage suspended with automatic feeding and egg gathering. a cooler is not planned for the new building. About 1,64 cases of eggs are expected to be trucked weekly to western markets, with annual sales over 600 thousand dollars.

Services Wednesday For Mrs Frerichs

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church Steamboat Rock for 78 year old Mrs Rena Frerichs who died Monday in Eldora Community Hospital. Rev Jacob Ehman officiated with choir and flower attendants. Burial followed in Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Born September 14 1894 in Grundy County she married William Frerichs in 1915. Survived by daughter Esther Steinfeldt two sons Carl and Arthur and extended family. The Eldora Creps Funeral Home arranged the services. A school board meeting in Eldora was postponed to June 20 at 7 30 p m.

Planning Committee Organizes 102nd Hardin County Fair Parade

Planning committee chaired by Harold Dettbarn with Mike Crosser announces a July 30 6 p.m. parade kickoff for the 1978 Hardin County Fair sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. The event spans July 30 to August 3 featuring senior citizen activities, air shows, nightly grandstand acts by Blackwood Singers and King Kovaz, 4‑H events, water fights, queen coronation, and various farm and community demonstrations and contests.

Eldora Street Repairs Prompted by Water Damage

Eldora city crews repaired the intersection of 13th Street and Edgington Avenue where LaVelle Oil Company is located after water drainage damaged the street. City officials plan additional repairs in upcoming weeks under a repair improvement program.

Mission Emphasis Services Planned At Wellsburg

Wellsburg Reformed Church hosts mission emphasis services Sunday and Monday June 17 and 18. Speakers include Rev Chester Meengs from Brewton Alabama and Rev and Mrs Hostetter returning to West Pakistan. An Anaheim California speaker Mr Harry Hakken follows Monday night. Organize Tour Planned for Washington Citizenship Trip

Mrs Harold Lloyd of Eldora and Jim Agnew of Marshalltown led a Des Moines Area Community College Ankeny meeting for last minute instructions on the Washington D C citizenship trip set to depart Saturday.
