75 Years Ago Eldora heads for Dubuque honors

75 Years Ago 1886 The O. B. Chapin hose team of Union with cornet band left for Dubuque to win state honors. Also, wedding news of George E. Dick] of Iowa City and Miss Hattie Pattie of Ackley to be married at the bride’s home. A railroad meeting at the courthouse featured speeches by Judge Stacy and others. A survey fund was raised with a $100 horse donation.

Five CCC Company 1752 Celebrates Third Anniversary

Five members of CCC Company 1752 marked its third anniversary since its 1933 establishment. Mary Rickard and Bert Myers of Lawn Hill noted at the Little Brown Church. Barbara Moser returns from New York musical show

Fifteen years ago in 1946 Barbara Moser daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry B Moser arrived home from New York where she had a part in the musical Oklahoma Summer band concerts featured the Eldora High School band directed by Mila Myer and others yet to be read.

Harriett Simons Receives Indiana Master's Degree

Harriett Simons daughter of Superintendent and Mrs. Paul Simons of Eldora earned a Master’s Degree with high distinction from the University of Indiana in music with a major in choral directing. She previously earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Drake University. Her parents attended the Bloomington graduation exercises with her.

Stanley Marshall Re-Elected By Co. Bar Association

Ackley resident Stanley J. Marshall was re-elected to a second term as president of the Hardin County Bar Association. Jack Ball of Lundy, Butler and Wilson in Des Moines was chosen secretary for the ensuing year. The group noted all county schools participated in the American Citizenship Award with recipients Verl Miller, Dave Palmitier, Richard Nehring, Allen Heryford, Karen Price, Hugh Carter, Richard Gehrke, Sandya Sue Bessman and others named from various towns.

Hubbard Services For Will Dubberke

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Hubbard Evangelical and Reformed Church for Will Dubberke a lifelong Hubbard resident who died at home after a lingering illness. He was 75. Burial was in Hubbard Cemetery with Rev. Arthur Kruetzmann officiating. Survivors include his wife five brothers and four sisters among others.

Church Honors Rev Trimble At Clear Lake

The Rev. H. E. Trimble, a former Eldora area resident, was honored at Clear Lake for diligent work on a fund drive and plans for a new Christian Church. He resigned as pastor in late 1958 due to ill health after serving since December 1, 1953, previously minister at Point Pleasant. He attended Secor and Eldora schools.

Tigers Baseball Season Opener Postponed In Eldora

The opening Eldora Tigers baseball game was postponed Wednesday night due to wet grounds. The Tigers were set to host Steamboat Rock but the game will be moved to Ackley tonight at 5 30 pm. Next home games include Marshalltown Monday and Iowa Falls Friday, with local games at 8 pm.

Folkerts Cow Delivers Identical Twin Heifers

A Jersey cow owned by Nason Folkerts of Eldora gave birth to identical twin heifers Sunday evening. The dam and both calves are reported healthy and rest at Leo Steinfeldt farm southeast of Eldora. The cow has produced three previous calves and was once a 4 H project of Folkerts.

Terraces Spread Across Hardin County This Spring

Hardin County reports show over 44 miles of terraces built this spring to reduce erosion. Cal Moore of the Soil Conservation Service notes terraces cut erosion to about one seventh of up and down farming, with 5646 to 6550 foot lengths on several farms including Forrest Skuston Junk Lundy Union and B C Calch Knutgon Radcliffe. An additional 10 or so farms have requested terrace layouts for fall. Terraces run parallel to minimize short rows and align with four row equipment.

Hardin county commemorates Soil and Water Conservation Week June 11 to 18 while recognizing Iowa's 100 Soil Conservation Districts.
