City Clerk Shafer Denies Raw Sewage Bypass Rumors

City Clerk George M. Shafer dispels rumors of raw sewage entering the river without treatment. He explains the process is unchanged except for a broken filtration unit at the disposal plant. Shafer outlines efforts to obtain a replacement, notes sludge beds fill as before, and cites dates from 1950 to 1951 about notices, repairs, and communications with the state board of health and Dorr Co. Fish plentiful in Iowa River near Eldora report

Three Marshalltown men Paul Lang, Jim Cordt, and Eugene Carson demonstrated good fishing on the Iowa River near Steamboat Rock dam and the old wagon bridge in Eldora. They landed 28 catfish weighing 3% to 4 pounds, one five-pound bass, and three bullheads during a weekend fishing trip.

Park Attendance Sets Record at Fine Lake State Park

Sunday's crowd at Fine Lake State Park topped this year’s figures says park superintendent D. W. Hicks. More than 000 visitors enjoyed the day and the bathing beaches reported their busiest season day.

An excellent silent reel of colored films from Pine Lake Wildlife club at Hudson park dedication and sick day was captured by Floyd Ashton of Boaman. The July 13 program includes land and water retrievers by Herman Stettler, greyhound races, park dedication, children's fishing contest and Ben Hardesty's bait and fly casting exhibition. Local residents appear in the film as an arrangement to show all or part on WOLTY TV.

Week at State Camp Mitigwa for 18 Scouts and leader

Eighteen scouts from Eldora attended Camp Mitigwa near Boone for a week led by Scoutmaster KE J Foster. Merit badge work included swimming track events archery and rifle target practice. Eldora Adopts Budget With 144800 Expenditures Plan

The Eldora city council adopted a budget totaling 144 800 for the next fiscal year after hearing no taxpayer objections at the four Monday sessions. The budget estimate had been published recently.

Upper Pine Lake Filling Progress Report

The dam gate at Upper Pine Lake was closed last Saturday, and substantial progress is noted in filling the lake. Access road improvements have been made with crushed rock near the new culvert, and blacktop is planned next season after settling.

Aqua Antics to close Red Cross pool school with free show

Over 260 children enrolled in the South Hardin Red Cross swimming school will present a free public closing program for Aqua Antics at Pine Lake beach next Monday night. The event features Miss Pine Lake crowning, variety acts, synchronized swimming, dives, and novelty routines under master of ceremonies Ray Ryan, with instructors and local sponsors providing support.

Body of Pte. Charles Hodge Due Back From Korea

Wire reports the body of Pte. Charles Joe Hodge 27, of Eldora, is en route to the United States. He served with the 38th Infantry Division, arrived in Japan December 1, moved to Korea in December, and was killed in action January 10. Funeral details await in Eldora as rites are planned at Andrie & Creps, burial in Eldora cemetery. Survived by parents, two brothers Ed and Carl, and three sisters Ava, Olin Swain, and Mrs. Harold Marchant.

PMA Weighs Sealed Corn Options for Farmers

The county PMA asks farmers with corn in storage to state intentions on handling it. 1948 crop cannot be resealed and must go to CCC or be bought back. 1949 and 1950 corn meeting quality rules can be resealed, CCC delivered, or bought back. Break-even estimates: about $1.69 per basket for 1948 corn and $1.50 for 1949 corn.

County Board of Education Discusses School Reorganization Plan

Speakers at a Redcliffe public meeting stressed the board's duty to draft a tentative reorganization plan for southwest Hardin county schools. Voters will decide the final plan, with State Superintendent advising but not controlling. Topics included tuition adequacy for nonresident pupils and the need for broad community input before any changes.

U. S. Army veteran Daggs, recalled in September 1950 for service with engineers in Pusan Korea, has arrived in the United States aboard a troopship from Korea and will be discharged under the war department program. He will go to Camp Carson Conn for processing and may reach Eldora this weekend. Daggs works in local construction.

Sewer Progress Underway on 75,000 Extension Plan

Work on a 10 inch clay outfall sewer progresses rapidly as part of a 75,000 extension serving Liberty Park and southwestern city areas. The line, starting southwest of the disposal plant, had reached about 500 feet from Washington Street by Wednesday.

Lucky Farm Lady Finds 250 Four-Leaf Clovers

Mrs Morris May, a farmer living near Eldari, displays 250 four leaf clovers 40 six leaf clovers and several five leaf plants from a one square patch. Her collection, begun after moving near Eldar three years ago, is kept in a suriphook for display.
