Conservation Service names Thaine Hogue district chief

Thaine Hogue of Cresco began duties Monday as District Conservationist with the Martin County Soil Conservation Service in Eldora, succeeding Dick Bassett. Hogue, ISU agronomy graduate, has five years in Cresco and five as district conservationist in Butler County, with prior soil positions in Cherokee and Cedar Rapids. He and wife have seven children and will move to Eldora when housing is available.

Alden Boy Scout Charter Members Set for Parade

Four charter Alden Boy Scout members founded the troop in Iowa, led by Rev. W G Muhleman. Three of the original four are expected in Bidora for the Pioneer Parade kicking Hardin County Fair Salute to Seduling. Salute to Scouting marks Hardin County Fair start

The 103rd Hardin County Fair opens Monday July 29 with a week long Salute to Scouting parade in Eldora at 6 p.m. Scouts from Eldora Hubbard Radcliffe Steamboat Rock and Iowa Falls participate. Grand Marshal Mrs. Arthur Westbury of Towa Falls leads a Girl Scout uniform float. Separate events include senior citizen day with free grandstand tickets and a Hardin County Talent Night.

Pioneer Parade Route Set by Officials for July Event

The El Dora Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Pioneer Parade on Monday July 2. Parade participants must be in position by 5 p.m. The route begins at the Lutheran Church on ith Avenue and proceeds down Washington Street to 14th Avenue, east to 12th Street, north to 12th Avenue, east to 10th Street, north to ith Avenue, then east to the fairgrounds. A Salute to Scouting program follows the parade in front of the grandstand.

Farm Bureau Cook-out Contest Time Change

The annual Hardin County Fair cook-out contest announces a new judging time set for 5 p.m. on Wednesday July 31. Ray McDowell of Eldora chairs the event, open to males over 12 who reside in Iowa. Winners may advance to the state finals at the Des Moines State Fair on August 21.

Plan Of Two Year Stocking At Pine Lake

Officials from the Iowa Conservation Commission and state representatives met with the Eldora Chamber to discuss a two year stocking plan for Upper and Lower Pine Lakes. A 1974 September stocking of 6 inch channel catfish is planned with 4000 fish for the Upper lake and 2300 for the Lower lake, followed by a 1976 survey to assess reproduction and growth.

Finalize Plans For Livestock Sale At Hardin County Fair

Hardin County Extension Director Jim Johnson reports final plans for a livestock sale at the Hardin County Fair. The sale will be held Friday August 8 on the fairgrounds in Hiriora. Farmers Auction Market of Tildora will serve as auctioneers for the sale scheduled to begin at a stated time.

Automobile Plows into Herald-Index Building

George Edwards of Ieldora plowed a 05 Ford into the north wall of the Herald-Index Publishing Co on Edgington Avenue about 4 15 pm as he attempted to park at the Lil Broaster across the street. No one inside injured Edwards escaped with minor injuries and said the gas pedal stuck. Exterior damage uncertain but stock and equipment inside valued around 1000 dollars.

Births and family obituary for Adala Klemme Risse near Hubbard

Adala Klemme Risse was born March 7 1887 on a Hubbard area farm to Fred and Charlotte Klemme and joined Zion Church throughout life. She married Charles Risse February 17 1909 with farming moves near Garden City Hubbard and later Hubbard before residing at Valley View Nursing Center in Eldora. Surviving are three children Gladys Clark Radcliffe Harald and Dayles Hubbard, two brothers Freddie Klemme Hubbard and Hubert Klemme Wrightsville Pa, two sisters Mrs Alfred Cuenay Mannetter Hubbard and Mrs Lloyd Ureney Reed Phoenix Ariz. one daughter Blaine died at age four, her husband and other siblings preceded her in death.

Heritage Contests Feature August 4 at Hardin County Fair

Heritage contests are slated for Thursday August 1 at 3 pm during the Hardin County Fair. John Aidara announces prizes for wood and third place in each division. Last place winners may advance to the State Fair later in August. Other events include rooster crowing, chicken calling, rolling pin throw, husband calling, Indian wrestling, cuis weaving, hog catching, hog calling, and nail driving.
