Spray For Second Brood Corn Borers Starting Aug 1
Town State College entomologist Dr Harold Gunderson says peak second brood corn borer emergence has delayed and the best spraying time in central Town is the week of Aug 1. He uses eye mass counts to time spray, advising one and a half pounds of DDT per acre with high clearance gear when about 100 eye masses per 100 plants are found. Early treatment during egg laying keeps larvae from hatching later and protection remains with one application.
