Roland Before National GOP Farm Plank Group

Lloyd Roland, Hardin County farmer and former county supervisor, appeared before a GOP national convention farm plank committee in Chicago. He traveled with U S Senate candidate Jack Miller to discuss reforms, including land retirement payments and expanded research for farm products, amid debates on market stability and foreign imports.

Welden Re-elected to District Republican Post in Iowa

Mrs L L Welden of Iowa Falls was renominated and re elected vice chairman of the third district at a caucus before the Iowa State Republican convention in Des Moines. E W Bil Henke of Charles City was re elected district chairman. Welden could not attend due to illness but expected to join the fall campaign. Hardin County backed Jack Miller in the U S Senate race with Miller winning a final roll call vote and securing the nomination after county switches.

TB Cases Suspicioned In Hardin County

Hardin County tuberculosis screening shows 3 suspected TB cases after follow up X rays. 143 others with chest abnormalities may need further care. 3426 people notified. Mrs. R. K. R. (Ann) Griffel of Eldora was re-elected to the Iowa Women’s Golf Association board of directors at a Des Moines meeting on Wednesday. The association’s state tournament is currently in progress at Hyperion.

Eldora District Proposes Slightly Higher Budget

Eldora community school district proposes a budget for 1960-1961 with a tax rate of 42.80 per 1000 assessed value, about 17 000 more than 1959-1960, funded by 303 479 in taxes and 49 319 from other sources. The plan includes a $16 000 renovation of the band room and science facilities financed partly by National Defense Education Act funds, plus a new librarian and staff raises. A public hearing is set for August 3 at 8 am.

Eldora Boy Scouts left from the school house Sunday for a camp. The week’s schedule includes crafts, athletics, events, and swimming. Kiddies Nickel Days Set for Eldora Thursday and Friday

Eldora hosts one of its largest Kiddies Nickel Days on Thursday July 28 and Friday July 29. A scouts parade starts Friday at 7 pm, with the kiddies parade at 10:30 am Thursday. Carnival rides, a band concert, and mating shows run both days, with back to school bargains offered by local businesses.

Fat Livestock Sales to Begin at Eldora Pavilion

Fat livestock auction sales will be held each Wednesday at the Eldora Livestock Pavilion beginning July 27. The weekly sales start at 9 30 a m with many packer buyers planning to attend. About 300 head of hogs and 300 head of cattle have been consigned for the inaugural sale, the first of its kind in recent years.

Kate Hill Memorial Established in Pakistan

A memorial fund of 800 dollars was sent to Memorial Hospital in Sialkot, West Pakistan, honoring Kate A. Hill of Elders who died April 9, 1960. Hill served as hospital superintendent for ten years before retiring in 1942. Established in 1886, the hospital treats about 2,000 inpatients and 20,000 dispensary patients annually, with a staff of over 40. The memorial was contributed by Eldora Congregational Church parish members, Miss Hill's missionary associates, and Newton United Presbyterian Church.

Reverend Sterling accepts Minnesota pastorate

The Rev. D. M. Sterling, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Eldora, has received a call to the Congregational Church in Spring Valley, Minnesota. A church meeting is set for Sunday, July 31 at the close of morning worship, when Sterling will present his resignation from Eldora. He has served since December 1928.

Robertson man charged with Sunday beer sale in Ackley

Harry Chandler, identified as Robertson, was charged with selling beer on Sunday and posted a $500 bond in Ackley court Tuesday. He was released and the case proceeds to district court. Chandler is employed and resides at the Robertson store.

Koenig Attends Language Institute at Washington U

Robert Koenig husband of Iyodelle Daluske of Eldora attends Modern Language Institute at Washington University St Louis begun June 20 and ending August 12 as one of 20 chosen from 400 applicants. Koenig, a German instructor at Perryville High, receives summer family support. Eldora budget lowers city taxes for 1961 with millage 28.27 and 91,700 to be raised by taxation.

Fourth Annual Local Fly-in Most Successful In History

Eldora hosts the fourth Eldora Fly-In Breakfast at the airfield south of Eldora drawing about 3,000 attendees for a morning and afternoon schedule. Over 2,000 pancakes were served from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. About 120 planes parked at the north end as 300 fly-ins joined breakfast. Keith Hogle, president of the Thunderbird Flying Club, helped sponsor the event with co chairs Carroll Hubeon and “A Chingman.”

Local Boy Scouts Headed to National Jamboree

Eight Eldgra youths left Des Moines Wednesday evening bound for Colorado Springs Colorado for the fifth national Boy Scout Jamboree. They are Steve Daggs Gary Seggerman Jody Kramer Kent Barnard Steve Marsden Ike Rooks Bob Erbes and Rick Barnard. They were to arrive Thursday as the jamboree began this morning. An hour long television program with Herb Shriner as master of ceremonies will be staged at the jamboree site Saturday night July 30.

Trees Removed In School Area At Eldora

Several trees around Eldora school buildings were removed or topped last week along with unsightly stumps. Plans call for new plantings along the north side of the new gym. Everett Rogers led the local tree work.

Un-Whitten Scout Celebration Saturday Golden Jubilee event
