Eldora faces crowding as grades move up and seniors outnumber facilities. A new 18 room unit and gym–music–science expansion are proposed to relieve crowded classes, storage shortages, and scheduling constraints, with aims to modernize and allow future growth.
Popent Harvey Slack of Hubbard gave twenty dollars to a sleight of hand showman. Blakeslee and Stratton build a fair trade at Gif ford. Eldora has water in many cellars. Dust was settled by Sunday showers. Dr Morse erects an office. Dr Underwood moves east. Steam boat Rock school board chose A J Cavana Iowa Falls as principal and Miss Kate Boylan as primary teacher. Fourth of July events included a well received Second Brigade band performance at Grundy Center and a 13 to 11 ball game on the fairgrounds between west and north side. Steamboat Rock dazzled with decorations. crowds gathered under superb weather. Elon Burlingame family reunion occurred here with all children except Bert in attendance. J F Hardin and D Wills plan a brick block on the square after July Fourth. Several local widowers noted. many wives vacationing. Emma Persen left for Colfax for rest. Eli Hutzel of Broadhead, Wis., will move next spring to the Martin farm. City council voted paving to the section line near Jos Wallace residence. all members voted except Leo Marks. Great crowds gather for the Chautauqua as Hon W Bryan draws crowds again. School board approved four buses to shuttle country children to Eldora’s consolidated school. Carroll Times asks does a hen stop scratching when worms scarce. Mr and Mrs W E Soper Ang chihiway returned from outing at Clear Lake. Dr and Mrs H W Emeny back from Minneapolis visit. Sam Greensweig announces the opening of a croach.
Rumblings From The Town Pump notes Eldora again made international headlines during Field Days in June and recalls wartime riots at the Training School. A European reader sent a two column Stars and Stripes story on Eldora, while Grundy Center reports a 15 000 capacity gym that locals say is actually 1 500. area business plans include three new ventures and a revived pony market along Washington Street. Red Cote wins 1956 cribbage title and asserts Eldora pride as the town bills itself The Pony Capitol of the World.
