A string of neighbors share visits and dinners across Union, Ames, and surrounding towns. Many attend church events, bake sales, and homecomings while relatives and friends travel between Marshalltown, Des Moines, and Eldora. Notable items include hospital stays, school events, and support for local families through gatherings at homes and churches.
The Ivester Credit Union marked its 10th anniversary serving Mei Tass township and surrounding area. It was organized to promote savings and member benefits for local residents and families.
Reverend Mrs Peters Samdar hosts a 10 am service with a Ladies Aid meeting at Shurst parish. Fin dar meeting includes a basket dinner. Numerous local residents and families, including Mr and Mrs Jim Seo, Glen Baker area, Rankin family visits, and dedication of a new electric organ at Eldora First Baptist Church, are noted in attendance and social visits across the week.
Home made old fashioned cheese custard style cake with sour cream and pineapple. Instructions describe crust from crumbs and butter, cream cheese filling folded with sour cream, pineapple garnish, bake time around 86 minutes, cool and serve with pineapple crown topping.
Ivester Credit Union began with 19 members and 229 dollars in shares on January 21, 1947. By December 1947 it had 85 members and 2347.21 dollars in shares with personal loans of 600 dollars. In ten years it grew to 73 members, 9428 dollars in shares, 290.91 in undivided earnings and 6121.22 dollars in personal loans. From 38 loans totaling 11465.25 dollars financed farm and business needs, education, cars, and homes. No bad loans recorded. Over 751 dollars paid to members in dividends, current rate 2 percent. loan interest 4 percent. 1957 officers: Glen Moats president, Alfred Kruschwitz vice president, Lawrence Pence secretary, Fred Draper treasurer.
