Steamboat Rock pupils travelled to Iowa Falls for the annual preliminary speech contest and earned three Division I ratings from six entries. Shirley Kruse and David Asher received I ratings for humorous monologues and oration, the one act play “October Yar” also won I, featuring Phyllis Bell Bonnin Pierson Shirley Kruse and Alle Jaspers. Other participants earned I1 ratings including Phyllis Bell in a dramatic monologue “Sorry Wrong Number,” Patty Lutken in a humorous monologue “Roller Skating,” and Ronnie Ricken in a humorous monologue “On The Telephone.”

Junior high staged two one act plays directed by Wils Pierson for Band Boosters on February 15. In One Happy Family the Oberstateer family includes Mrs Oberstateer Mary Last and Emmy Lou played by Marilyn Saint. Miss Helen Page Delights Students With Assembly Program

Miss Helen Page and Eugene Mayer presented an assembly program on Tuesday morning performing songs readings and a scene from Blithe Spirit The act included Three Little Fishes Albert and the Lion and an original piano piece An Imitation Of A Music Box They tour middle western schools in Iowa Illinois Indiana and Missouri calling the visit a new but enjoyable experience This was the seventh such program this year and the audience hoped for more similar shows.
