Rebecca Hinchman of Oak Grove was elected matron of the New Providence academy boarding house. A fire destroyed a small house on Mrs. M. Farion's farm in Melrose township, with F. W. Heard losing all possessions. Prof. Woodward to recite a Civil War poem at a Buckner post meeting. Del Nutting arrived from Butte with 14 head of cattle, journeying via Ft. Dodge to Eldora with family. Newcomers report local property plans, store changes, and hunting trips. Des Moines Short Line board switches to eastern directors. S. Elsworth declines reappointment. American Republic Insurance Co introduces a county wide Hospital and Surgical plan with Des Moines Home Office. The program aims to cover hospital and doctor expenses for residents, including rural families, and projects broad participation in 1961 with interviews by authorized staff.
Eldora routed Jesup 85 55 in a North Iowa Cedar League game behind 35 percent field shooting and 71 percent free throws. The win keeps Eldora in third place as Tigers fans note 15 years of service by Eldora school physician Dr W H Van Tiger who resigns. Dr D H Glenn named in his stead.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Biersborn Funeral Home Union for Ethel M. Pierce 67 formerly of Whit ten who died December 7. Pallbearers included Carl Callaway Ray Callaway Earl Lamer Clyde Mitchem Rolla Long and Gussie Walton with flower ladies Mrs Ray Callaway and Mrs Clyde Mitchem. Rev James Person officiated with vocals by Mrs Person. Burial followed in Benson Cemetery.
Mrs. Pierce of Goodell born July 20, 1893 to William and Margaret Dra per. She married Carl Pierce on March 4, 1910. Survived by four children Lloyd and Dale in New Jersey Carl Eugene and Mrs. Marjorie Grenfold in Seattle Washington and one sister. Preceded in death by husband, one son and one sister.
Seven scout troops from Eldora plan a Monday December 19 visit to the hospital rest homes and local shut ins. After the visit they will meet at the Congregational Church for hot chocolate and cookies.
