The Hardin county assessor's office proposes expenditures of 22500 for the fiscal year starting Jan 1, a reduction of 960 from the current levy. 1950 budget was 13460. 1948 and 1949 costs were 21578 and 36721, including real estate appraisal by Wilkins. Eighteen Hardin county youths were called to take selective service physical examinations in Des Moines today. Not all are expected to appear due to classification changes. Six passed the tests with certificates of acceptability received. several were ineligible. No induction numbers for September have been issued.

Street Blacktopping To Start Aug 25 Har Brave Co to resurface Eldora streets
Representatives of Har Brave Construction Co Cedar Rapids informed Eldora officials that crews will arrive Friday August 25 to begin street blacktopping on North Washington from the Diamond Bros corner to the Catholic church and on south 15th street from 18th to 24th avenues at the sale barn. The project will cost about 6000 dollars.

Rural teachers to meet in Hardin county Saturday
Hardin county's 49 rural teachers from 42 schools will assemble in the courtroom for the first compulsory meeting of the 1950-51 year. County Supt M Z Albers announced an all-day program featuring a health lecture by County Nurse Eve Olson at 9 p.m. and a 10 a.m. address on Primary Subjects by Dr Olive Pearl Ritter of the University of Iowa. Five Eldora first grade pupils will be used in a demonstration. Marie Guendling will discuss teaching art and J P Street will conduct a music clinic using songs from Together We Smeg, the rural schools text for the year. Some rural schools plan Aug 28 starts, others Sept 4 or 5.

Funeral services were conducted for Harry Esterday 69 of Eldora at the Andrle and Creps funeral home with Rev. Dewey Lamprecht officiating. Mrs. Orville Johnson sang with Mrs. Do. R. Johnson accompanying. Casket bearers were Louis Matthews Roscoe Myers Clifford Hayden Herb Dawson and Fred Broer. Esterday, born in Champaign March 13 188? and died at the county home Monday. He worked for years in the county including on the Ed Schwebke farm.

Fire crew saves two buildings from bale stack blaze
El Dora fire department and nearby farmers battled a smouldering hay stack at the Leo Freed farm eight miles southeast of Eldora. Firemen kept water on the stack until midnight while neighbors spread the hay to prevent spread, saving two buildings. the Freed family fed workers a midnight lunch. Freed is a patient at Eldora Memorial hospital.

Scouts to Camp Three Days at Wildcat Canyon
More than 69 county scouts are expected for a three day camporee August 23 to 25 at the old scout camp in Wildcat canyon northeast of Eldora. Iowa Falls Alden Hubbard Eldora troops will attend with Radcliffe possible. The program emphasizes education with safety lectures by a highway patrolman and firearms instruction by Sheriff Hodgson and Deputy Dempsey. Scouts will live outdoors and cook their own meals. a campfire program is open to parents and the public Thursday evening.
