Kermuth S. Huehn, longtime Marin County Superintendent of Setibols, was elected president of the Eldora Rotary Club at the Tuesday noon meeting. He will replace George Pargeer of Steamboat Rock as club head, with Potgeter named vice president and H. J. Schmitz as secretary treasurer. Directors elected include John Starr Ralph Collins Ayman Scott and Troy Jones, alongside existing directors Murl Schumacher, Huein, John B. Wood and Les Flickinger.

Funeral services were held at the Community Church of Union for Oliver Choplin 80 who died Monday at Kuper's Nursing Home Marshalltown. Burial was in Union Cemetery with arrangements by Biersborn Funeral Home Union. Surviving are two daughters Miss Ruby Chaplin Kansas City Kan two sons Chelsea Waterloo and John Des Moines four sisters Mrs Arthur Reece Union and Mrs. (name cut) and Mrs. (name cut) Reece and other family members. Oliver Choplin born East Bend NC Jan 18 1880 came to Union in 1900 married Carrie Reece May 4 1904. He farmed ran a dray line livery stable sold autos and farm machinery later worked for Sorensen Implement Co. Of Union. He fell fractured pelvis six weeks ago and pneumonia followed.

Band A Rama At Local School Tuesday Night
Eldara Community school band department presents Band A Rama on Tuesday April 5 in the new auditorium. The program features Concert Band pieces Scenes From the Sierras Nocturne in a Modern Manner and other selections plus a fourteen piece stage band. The elementary band 60 members offers American Cowboy Mexican Sundae and more while the all seventh grade band of 30 performs The Battle Hymn of the Republic Blackwood Overture and El Toro. Lucille Ziesman of Eldora is among 36 finalists in the 14th Iowa Farm Bureau Women’s scholarship program. State chair Mrs. H. L. Witmer says 18 finalists will be chosen April 28 after interviews. Winners receive up to 160 dollars a year for two years at a college of their choice, with practice teaching offered.

Emmitt Hirt Car Found In Missouri
A 1959 Chevrolet owned by Emmett Hirt of Eldora was found in Kirksville Missouri. Two Iowa State Training School boys were arrested there after taking the car Tuesday night. Suspects are Thomas Wilson 16 Des Moines and Richard McCallum 17 Waterloo. The car bore Black Hawk county plates. Hirt is the new Hardin County Farm Bureau fieldman from each district. The winners will be selected on a district basis with two winners from each district.

Record Winter Snowfall and Melting Costs in Hardin County
Winter brought about 60 inches of snow across Hardin County causing road and bridge damage. A bridge west of Eldora on Tipton Creek was lost to high water, with a new one to be built this year. Snow melted over a week leaving about one inch, plus 0.25 inches of rain. Eldora records show 58 inches of snow, a local high. Schools limited travel on better roads. icicle and melting water damaged homes, especially in the south. A local court case involved Donald E. Ames fined for a vehicular collision. Janssen Rites Held At Eldora For Farm Implement Leader
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Eldora Congregational Church for Henry J. Janssen 73 a long time Eldora farm implement dealer and civic leader who died Monday afternoon of a lung hemorrhage at his office. Burial was in Eldora cemetery. He came to Eldora in 1912 and built a significant community profile serving as mayor George Janssen son and Wayne Janssen fellow dealer. He held many local posts and was active in Democratic circles, never seeking public office. He survived by two sons, two daughters, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren with several siblings.
