The newly reorganized Hanover Student Senate held its installation. Dean Bonnett administered the oath and presented the gavel to president Bob Randle who welcomed returning students and outlined the Senate’s functions.
Treasurers and business managers are reminded that petitions for Student Senate funds are available in the Student Senate box at the library. These petitions must be returned to the box or to Barth Senior by Monday afternoon, September 23.
On October 3 1963 the freshman class presents two one act plays at Parker Auditorium The Prize Play by Mary Chase features a small girl writing a play and a humorous backstage setup The Bald Soprano by Ionesco satirizes conformity and language decay with a cast including Mary Smith and Robby Baker Directors are Karen Burrin and Robby Baker Curtain time is 9 00 p m.
A lecture demonstration of Gregorian Chant will be offered in Hanover College auditorium on September 26 at 9 40 am. The Schola Cantorum of St. Meinrad College and Rev. Blaise Hetich will present medieval church music in unison with no accompaniment. The program emphasizes chant as prayer not entertainment, featuring ten St Meinrad students preparing for the priesthood and Benedictine teaching.
A college assembly policy shifts to halves attendance every other week with a larger budget for programs. The administration moves to a nine faculty four student Student Faculty Committee on Assembly to improve policy and attendance. The plan eliminates grade penalties and the cut number system, assigns seats on the main floor, opens balcony seating, and emphasizes attendance as part of liberal arts curriculum. Faculty members listed include Profs Bucks Eisan Dunwell Faut Hopkins Koehler Mower Tate Trimble with Tate overseeing fall chapel programs and Trimble heading assembly programs.
Hanover College prepares Sunday ceremonies on the west lawn of Crowe Hall at 2 PM to dedicate Wiley Residence Hall and Crowe Residence Hall. Attendees include Harvey Wiley and John Crowe descendants with campus leaders presenting keys to Wiley Hall and tours to follow.
Hanover students and faculty can apply for Board of Editors and business manager roles at Hillthoughts the literary magazine. Submit qualifications and reasons to Dr Edward Lueders Mr Charles Fox or Judy Moffett by Friday noon September 27. The magazine is published annually and free copies of last year’s issue are available in the library.
Dr Edward Huenemann professor of theological studies spoke at the year's first chapel at Hanover College asking what a Christian liberal arts college means and concluding that conduct with the name of Jesus Christ defines Hanover's identity.
