Hanover alumni and faculty attended the Indiana Synod of the Presbyterian Church at Indianapolis Tabernacle Church. Delegates included Dr. Millis, Dr. Howk from New Albany Presbytery, and Professors Garrett and Souter. Millis spoke on educational affairs. Hawk serves on the Home Mission Board and Garrett on the Board of Education. A Hanover dinner followed the convention.
The Union Literary Society held its first meeting of the year with R. B. Sitler presiding. It featured extemporaneous speeches and a debate, showing renewed interest after a two year decline. Faculty supervision has improved the program and new members are expected to rise to the occasion. Prof. P. P. Boyd, attending Cornell, notes his status at 108 Cook St., Ithaca, N. Sigma Chi initiated Friday night.
Walter L. Fisher of Chicago is named as a leading candidate for the United States Supreme Court vacancy created by Chief Justice Fuller’s death. President Taft is considering him with strong support from Chicago bar members and Democratic allies. Supporters include John P. Wilson and John Barton Payne who publicly endorse Fisher’s qualifications and integrity.
