The Brothers Four delivered a lively show with strong harmony and rhythm. They impressed with novelty numbers and the serious songs, notably a smooth rendition of St. James Infirmary. The group’s fresh approach and direct execution pleased the Hanover audience and suggested further big-name acts to come.
Professor Renick leads a three year FM educational series on WERS Emerson and Boston University. The 20 programs, praised by the Ella Lyman Cabot Trust, explore language origins and development through dialogues in Enish, not language teaching. Hanover professors and students join future episodes in April and May.
Bradshaw Mintener Jr special assistant in the Peace Corps college and university division will visit Hanover College on Friday March 29 to meet students and faculty about Peace Corps service. The program seeks volunteers to teach English and other subjects at all levels.
Hanover College adds a balanced staging of the Indian classic The Clay Cart by King Shudraka. Music and Indian conventions enliven the performance while unities feel suspended. Performances from Charudata to Sans thanaka receive praise though some poetry and lighting issues distract. The stage and costumes, especially the color scheme, enhance atmosphere and the production earns strong audience enthusiasm. Tonight’s encore presentation is recommended for drama fans.
Alpha Delta Pi and Phi Mu teams advanced to the Intramural Debate semi finals. Roxanne Kalb and Sarah Mercersmith of AD argued the negative on That India Should Abandon Her Policy of Neutrality against Theta's Sharon Fitch and Lucy Frick. Phi Mu with Jean Ragand and Trudy Somers defeated Donner Hall as Susan Powell and Marilyn Mikesell argued the negative. Donner-Ide drew a bye and will face Phi Mu Wednesday in the semi finals with Vicki Dell and Pat Nelson set for the negative against Phi Mu. The finals loom for April 3 in Long Gymnasium against the AD team.
The Hanover Players announce tryouts for The Cave Dwellers by William Saroyan. Auditions are Wednesday at 7 30 p m in Parker Auditorium and Friday at 7 30 p m in the Band Room, Parker.
John H. Ferguson, Professor of Political Science at Pennsylvania State University, will speak at Classic 102 over three days on Trends in state and local government. Public is invited. Ferguson will also meet privately with students Thursday afternoon and Friday morning to discuss careers in political science.
The Davidson College Male Chorus of 29 voices will perform in Parker Auditorium on Tuesday March 26 at 8 00 pm. The open concert recalls past tours to San Antonio and trips to Boston and New York in 1961. Critics call it among the nation’s finest choral groups.
Two French films will be shown in Parker Auditorium on Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p m Admission is free for Hanover students and faculty Thursday features La Beauté du diable directed by Rene Clair with Gerard Philipe in a humorous Faust study Friday presents Marcel Carnes Symphonie Pastoral starring Michele Morgan The Cannes award winner was shot near Chateau d Oeuvre and explores religion versus romantic love.
Hanover College moved forward with the widely publicized Indian Institute and a major group appearance. The events increased visibility, aim to attract support for future institutes, and showcased the college's progress and diversity through well attended seniors and the Brothers Four performance.
