The Hanover College senior class creates the Class of 1965 Lecture ship funded by a 25000 endowment to pay an annual lecturer starting 1966 67. The fund, to be fully donated by 1977, reflects a 150th anniversary goal and will yield about 1000 annually for an outstanding lecturer.
Applications for editor of the 1966 Revonah Head must be mailed to Prof. Frank S. Baker no later than March 30, 1965. Include candidate’s experience in high school and college yearbook work and a brief statement of plans if selected.
Caledonia, a seven men seven women troupe under founder Andrew MacPherson, presents a full panorama of Scotland through authentic music and dances. The program features Burns poems set to songs, pipers, and festive mouth music, with soprano Hilda Stewart and dancer Billy Forsyth who won the 1963 World Championship. The show emphasizes native costumes with tartans and Royal Stewart kilts.
Fifteen Hanover students received new Chevrolet cars with all expenses paid. Each student plans spring vacation journeys to destinations such as Florida, Daytona Beach, Chicago, Madison, Louisville, and beyond while using the cars for trips home, job hunting, student teaching, or vacations. Several intend to visit Florida and some plan city or university trips, including Washington, D. C. and the United Nations study term.
Eighty five Hanover students and faculty traveled to Louisville to join a Selma sympathy march led by Rev A B Williams King. The crowd heard King urge active participation and a petition for stronger voter registration measures. The event featured Governor Breathitt and was described as orderly with no violence.
The Public Affairs Forum will host Dean Donald C. Stone, Dean of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, as Monday's Assembly speaker. Stone, with a long career in public service and international affairs, will discuss a ten year plan to make cities livable. He will also hold student conferences Tuesday morning and Monday and Tuesday afternoon. He previously led Springfield College and helped organize the Marshall Plan.
Reverend Gerald R. Johnson named speaker for the 132nd annual Baccalaureate Service on May 30 in Indianapolis. Johnson is pastor of Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church and has held major administrative roles with Synod of Indiana and Meyer Neighborhood House. He graduated from the College of Wooster in 1940 and studied at Princeton Theological Seminary with graduate work at the University of Toledo in English and American literature. Johnson has served rural, inner city, and business-dominated churches and has two children, with his son set to enter Hanover in September 1965.
