The Poor Old Tree Goes To War Memorial
The Maple tree that shaded the dormitory grounds from its planting fifty years ago died after a 1917 windstorm. It was divided for a final act to aid the country in wartime, ashes preserved to enrich soil, and a new tree planned in its place. Misses Mary Stevenson and Margaret Cooper, globe trotters, visited Sgt. George Stevenson in North Vernon before his departure to France.
