Don Shirley Trio Encore Show Draws Standing Ovation
The Don Shirley Trio Juri Taht and Kenneth Fricker earned five encores at Hanover entertainment last Wednesday night as part of the Community Artists Series. The group played varied music including Gershwin from Porgy and Bess and Were You There Were You There When They Crucified My Lord. Don Shirley holds three PhDs and has worked with Stravinsky and Duke Ellington. He values diverse American music and avoids labels.

Shakespearean Troop To Appear In Madison
Next Thursday night January 24 the National Players of Washington D C will present Othello at Shawe Memorial High School Auditorium Madison. Admission for adults 150 students 75. The traveling troupe graduates of Catholic University has toured fourteen years performing Shakespeare Shaw and Greek drama. Othello the Moor of Venice is a tale of jealousy and murder with Iago Desdemona Cassio and Roderigo in key roles.

Dr Glenn Mower associate professor of political science has two articles accepted for publication. One in Social Science a journal of Pi Gamma Mu and the National Academy of Economics and Political Science discusses the UN budgetary process including its amount and allocation. The second piece The Sponsorship of Proposals in the UN General Assembly will appear in the Western Political Quarterly.

Jan Messersmith a 1962 Hanover graduate spoke on his Latin American trip with slide illustrations. He and two friends drove a Volkswagen through Central America to Panama where he flew to Bogota and bought a motor scooter for the rest of the journey. He toured Mexico City Vera Cruz Acapulco and saw Maya Toltec Aztec ruins. He traveled Guatemala and described Peru’s deserts and Inca architecture.

Opportunities Open For European Summer Study
Eleven groups of twenty to thirty American college students will form nine week seminars in Berlin Munich Tubingen Vienna Besancon Grenoble Pau Neuchatel Madrid Santander Florence to study language culture and civilization. Classes in small sections with native and American professors cover literature, media, pronunciation and grammar amid full university access and homestay living.
