Hanover Folk Singers To Tour For Hootenanny

Fifteen Hanover students travel to Anderson Indiana for an exchange talent program led by Jim Craig. The event features the Shuffle Creek Jug Stompers and the Four-Fifths with Mark Hershman as MC. The exchange aims to foster cultural ties between local colleges and universities, with Anderson College visiting campus on March 12.

Forensic Union Finishes First In Competition

The Hanover Forensics Union won the preliminary round of the National Contest in Public Discussion against Wisconsin State College Eau Claire University of California Santa Barbara and Louisiana State University. Ted Lester Tom Hall Shirley Bryant and Henry Hamman chaired the discussion on poverty in the United States. The taped event was judged at Southern Illinois University and will be sent to the national semi finals.

President Announces Faculty Appointments 1965-66

President Horner announces two new faculty appointments for the 1965 66 academic year at Hanover College. Paul R Ellefsen joins the chemistry department with a Monmouth College Ill degree and a Ph D from Case Institute of Technology in June 1965. Norman L Wykoff returns to the mathematics department after five years at Elizabethtown College and a Hanover graduate in 1956. He is married with two children and replaces Koehler who will resume graduate study.

Work Forms For Part Time Jobs 1965 66 Students

Students seeking part time work for the 1965 66 school year should file an Application for Work. Forms available in the Office of the Dean of Men Administration Building 102. Current workers must reapply to be considered for next year. Selection based on need and job performance.

Institute Plans and Events for Nigeria Focus Week

Rob Larson will present two illustrated Nigeria talks in Classic 102 before the institute opens. Finals for intramural debates are set for March 3 in Long Gym, then the institute opens March 4 with remarks by Mennen Williams, followed by talks from the Wiley couple and others on African studies. The program includes lectures, seminars, theatre, and an art exhibit featuring Indianapolislian African studies, with a world premiere of The Lion and the Jewel by the Hanover Players.

Three Library Specialists Examine College Library Adequacy

On campus last Tuesday through Thursday a trio of library specialists conducted a comprehensive review of the college library its facilities staff and its role in Hanover Plan implementation. Led by James Holly with Mrs Harold Baker and Mrs Robert McClarren the team will file a spring report with recommendations on microfilm use departmental facilities space use and collection planning. The library has grown 25 percent in five years and holds over 80 000 volumes with projected holdings exceeding 100 000 in four years if trends continue. A recent week long traffic survey shows Saturday presence never exceeding 28, arguing against Saturday evening hours. No firm future plans for the library have been announced.

Modern Poetry Topic For Iowa Author Talk

Paul Engle, noted poet and novelist, will speak before the assembly Monday, Feb. 15, 1965 on poetry in an atomic age. Engle directs the University of Iowa Program of Creative Writing in Iowa City, a leading national graduate program alongside Stanford's under Wallace Stegner. His works appear in major journals.

Students to study New Mexico communities in spring term

Nineteen anthropology students under Dr. Jack S. McCrary will travel by train from North Vernon to northwest New Mexico on April 21 for a five week field study. They will interview bilingual and trilingual residents to examine value orientations and social interaction.

Seminary President To Speak In Chapel

Dr. McKay, a preacher and author of Gods People in Gods World and Servants and Stewards, will speak in chapel. He holds degrees from Albright College Union Theological Seminary and the University of Edinburgh. He has taught at Hofstra Russell Sage College and served in New York and Scotland churches.
