Black officers push for respect and recruitment in Louisiana
The predominantly Black police officers group formed when Black officers were excluded from white units. Since 1956 it has pushed for fair hiring and treatment, winning a key Louisiana lawsuit in the mid 1970s to force departments to hire more Black officers. Leaders stress positive conduct and community trust as essential to effective law enforcement.

Agency Restructure Looms for Quad Area Action Plan
Senate Bill 484 would overhaul community action programs in six southeast Louisiana parishes and reshape the Quad Area Action Agency based in Hammond. Executive Director Winnie Sibley alleges political motive, claiming the bill targets her after she refused to dismiss a coordinator who opposed Sen. Severio in the Diez race. The measure, passed by the Senate, heads to a House conference committee for action.
