Omega Mardi Gras Parade set with guest stars and seven floats

Krewe of Omega promises two and a half hours of spectacle Thursday night featuring at least seven floats and six marching bands. Special guests from Las Vegas including Palace Station officials will ride. Parade route starts near Southeastern Louisiana University and ends at Seville, with SLU president G Warren Smith to be toasted.

Hammond hosts Japanese film shoot in town for Bourbon ad

French actors Jean Reno and Marc Duret shot a Japanese TV commercial for bourbon at Hammond depot this week. Local bystander Giselle Valois Hucabee and her grandson watched as a film crew pressed ahead with the scene. Amtrak from New Orleans provided backdrop as crews prepared for the May broadcast.

Hammond Welcomes Japanese Ad Crew For Local Shoot

Dana Hanby, a Hammond native now in New Orleans, says a Japanese liquor commercial filmed locally brought 18000 to 20000 dollars in food lodging and production sales. The entourage included 18 Japanese crew from Pyramid Film and Hakkudo Inc plus a dozen from Sunnyside Up and Barman International Enterprises Ltd. Betty Stewart of the Tangipahoa Tourism and Film Commission helped secure Hammond locations. Security and facilities were provided by Hammond police Grace Memorial Episcopal Church and the Chamber of Commerce depot rent.

Train cars derail near Amite in Illinois Central incident

Police Chief Tommy Cutter said 11 cars derailed near the Amite police station as a 106 car train bound for New Orleans carrying wheat burned a wheel axle. Crews from McComb Mississippi replaced 300 feet of track overnight, rerouting traffic for about a block with no injuries or citations.

Amite High School seeks eight foot fence for security

Amite High School plans an eight foot security fence after the Tangipahoa Parish School Board approved funding following multiple vandalism and burglary incidents.
