A group of Hamiota residents established the first rural Manitoba recycling depot to collect plastics bottles aluminum cans glass newsprint and more. The first depot runs October 4 from noon to 6 pm at the blue Feed-Rite Shed across from the Centotaph.
Residents of Hamiota and Decker are advised that this week’s edition includes the Manitoba Hazardous Management Corporation and Community Advisory Committee Map. It highlights Areas of Greatest Interest within the Rural Municipality of Hamiota. Contact Mary Lowe at the Local MHWNC Office in the Hamiota Centennial Library, phone 764 2876, for copies.
Rolling Dale Workshop hosts its annual Hobby Market on October 1 featuring Eleanor McConnell of Hamiota with plants and baked goods, Trudy Anderson and Bob Gaul of Winnipeg with collectibles, Lorna Baye and Ernie Wilkinson of Minnedosa with knit items and toys, Louise McDonald with toys, Jean Sharpe with knitted goods, Floriccum of Strathclair with home baking and canning, Gibb-Bee’s honey from Minnedosa, Stella Atamanchuk of Rossburn with Watkins products, plus Halloween pumpkins garden produce and various service groups. Rolling Dale will display refinished furniture and small crafts supervised by staff.
Prairie ministers from Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta will join senior federal officials in Brandon October 26 27 for the Prairie Forum for Rural Development. The two day program features discussions workshops and presentations on keeping rural residents in towns and boosting local economies with training distance education and telecomuting.
Agriculture Minister Glen Findlay announced a 40000 grant under the Agri-Food agreement to the Manitoba Agriculture in the Classroom committee. The funds support a coordinator salary and program operations while resources are catalogued for teachers. Office space and secretarial support are provided by the Manitoba Egg Producers' Marketing Board.
The Brandon Weather Office at Brandon Airport will host an Open House on Sunday October 1 from 1 30 p m to 5 00 p m. Eric Stanzelen and staff will conduct tours of the facility and forecasting gear including the new Weather Satellite Photo Reception Equipment.
M H W M C invites the public to a video night at the Hamiota Library on Tuesday October 10 from 7 to 10 pm. Two films will be shown a report on untreated hazardous waste disposal in Ontario and a tour of a Swan Hills Alberta disposal site describing physical and chemical treatment to reduce harm.
