Manitoba Hydro reports first quarter net income rise for 1997-98

Manitoba Hydro reports a first quarter net income of 24.6 million for 1997-98 with a 15.0 million year over year improvement due to higher out-of-province sales and lower financing costs. Revenue from electricity and other sources totals 249.1 million, up 5.9 million from a year ago, while out-of-province sales reach 73.3 million, up 6.7 percent on the year.

Sales tax filing change aids province's small businesses

Manitoba government cuts red tape for small firms by letting more report sales tax semi annually. Starting Oct. 1, businesses with an average monthly tax of $210 or less may file every six months instead of monthly, expanding the prior threshold of $70.
