Alberta Taber Moose A.B. squad won three straight games on Sunday September six to capture the Western Canadian Championship. The double knockout tourney included East Burnaby B C Taber Alberta Melville Sask and Hamiota Manitoba with Saskatchewan Manitoba and Alberta trading wins and losses in a tense round.

Snowmobile Licences Available in October
Manitoba Motor Vehicle branches will issue snowmobile licenses early in October at 15 dollars for 1971 to 1973 validity, with 10 and 5 dollar rates for 1971 and 1972. Transfers cost 2 dollars 50 cents, replacements 2 dollars. Reflectorized cream plates with green numerals must be mounted on each side. Local Resident Receives Manitoba Teachers' Scholarship
Janice A English of Hamiota is among seven Manitobans awarded 1970 scholarships totaling 4500 by the Manitoba Teachers Society. She won one of two 500 awards for faculty of education studies and plans to study at the University of Manitoba to become a guidance counsellor. Other scholarships include two 1000 graduate awards to Heather E Sharman and Geoffrey B Stone and three 500 undergraduate awards to Peter Bilanka G Albert Johansson Sheila D Lenton, plus another 500 faculty of education award to Ronald E Silver.

Bowling Club tournament closes season at Hamiota
The Hamiota Bowling Club held a tournament on Tuesday September 8 with eight rinks. Three games were played with the thirds acting as skips. Mrs Butchart led her rink of Mrs Runchey Mrs L Anderson and Mrs Wyborn to an undefeated victory. A pot luck supper for 39 participants brought the bowling year to a close.

Oak River Womens Institute Hosts September Meeting
The Oak River W I met September 3 in Memorial Hall with Mrs. Wm Hedley presiding. Members handed in a bar of baby soap for the Red Cross and reports highlighted a busy summer including a completed W S Centennial project and a July Dedication Service. The group noted water turned on and renovations planned at the building, thanked the White family for a new waterworks memorial, and looked ahead to an October meeting with speaker Mrs Salway of Neepawa on Family Living.
