The Hamiota Golf Club invites all members to the fall wind up and club championship on September 25 from 9 to 12. Awards in men’s and women’s flights, a $2 meal contribution, pot luck, and a chance to win a colour TV draw plus $100 certificates offered for sale.
The Royal Bank of Canada activates its second 24 Hour Personal Touch Banking Machine in Brandon at 8th and Rosser, joining the First and McTavish unit. The machines support withdrawals deposits transfers bill payments and access via a personal card with a PIN and provide receipts with updated balances.
The Hamiota Art Club held a re organization meeting on August 29 with seventeen attendees. Officers chosen include President Clara Stewart and Treasurer Phyllis August. Pam Heath of Oak Lake will teach eight lessons beginning September 22 at 7 00 p.m. at Hamiota Collegiate. Beginners welcome as new members are invited. Plans were made for special displays at Art shows to celebrate the Hamiota Centennial year.
Manitobans raised 185466 from Sears phone centre plus 45000 from events and fishbowl, totaling 230466 for the 18th annual Jerry Lewis Telethon aired on CKND TV Winnipeg and Westman. Across Canada the drive reached 2590948, with the US-Canada total surpassing last year and supporting Muscular Dystrophy research and patient services.
The Westman Sport Association plans the 1964 Westman Winter Games with events in Badminton Basketball Broomball Cross Country Curling Hockey Ringette and Volleyball. Regional finals host packages cover two or three sports each. Bids to host finals must be submitted by September 30 1983 with contact details provided.
Adams Distillers marks ten years of Kolomyka Vodka made from Manitoba grain grown by local farmers. Gimli Fort Garry Distillers bought 400000 bushels annually in 1963 and now purchases total 1500000 bushels as the plant celebrates the anniversary with special edition bottles acknowledging grain growers.
Manitoba Agriculture analyst Bob Ward reports 1982 farmland sales fell 13.6 percent to 362,759 hectares while the average price climbed 5.1 percent to 909 per hectare. Winnipeg-area municipalities remain pricier, with crop district 12 showing the largest year over year gains. Farmland values have risen 343 percent since 1972 though the pace has slowed.
