CNIB Campaign Aims to Raise 190000 in Manitoba

Centennial cairn marks Miniota Time Capsule event

The Miniota centennial ceremony included a time capsule placed in the cairn. Bob Henderson led the project with a parchment scroll of councillors' and reeves' names, printed by Jean Wiens. Students filled the capsule with personal items, class photos, and business tokens before sealing.

Decker United Church hosts 45th anniversary tea

A Come and Go Tea marked the 45th anniversary of Decker couple Bruce and Bessie on July 31 1983 at Decker United Church. A decorated car delivered the couple to the church. Family and friends from across Manitoba Alberta and California attended a green and white decor reception with a three tier cake and a buffet dinner.

Natural gas rates cut by Inter-City Gas Utilities

Inter-City Gas Utilities Ltd. will cut sales rates effective September 1 1983 after an August 1 1983 drop in gas cost from TransCanada Pipelines. The Public Utilities Board approved the pass through, yielding about 1.0 percent or $6.81 annually for a typical home. Mr. R J Meugge stated the reduction follows the lower gas cost to the company.

Bev Nolan Honored At Miscellaneous Shower In Chumah Hall

Bev Nolan nee Dale was feted Wednesday evening August 31 at Chumah Hall in a miscellaneous shower attended by over 70 guests. Ruth Mitchell read an address. gifts were presented by Tara Dale and Tanya Tirschman. Bev and Brian were married July 8 and live on the farm in Elkhorn.

Senior Choir Wind-Up Party At Rankins Home

The Senior Choir of the United Church held its wind-up party after practice on Thursday September 1 at Mrs. John Rankin's home. A social hour of games and visiting preceded a dessert of Angel Cake Ice Cream and Strawberries. The event marked 20 months of fellowship with Auld Lang Syne sung at the close and a wish for everyone to keep well.

Community Participation Agreements Expand Fine Options Network

Winnipeg minister Len Evans announces three new Community Participation Agreements to establish Resource Centres in Ste Anne Hamiota and Seymourville. The centres register supervise and place participants for community service at four dollars per hour under the Fine Options program. Since January 95 centres exist and by June more than 2600 have registered with about 1300 completing roughly 58000 hours of service.
