The Southwest A region Women's Institute board met in Hamiota on September 14 with 19 members from 14 institutes. Maude Leland chaired and opened with a thought for the day. Treasurer Mary Heise reported $118 on hand and a November regional fee of $2 per member to bolster finances.

United Church Youth Group Year In Review
The United Church Youth Group in Hamiota met twice monthly from September to year end, with activities on the second and fourth Mondays 7:30 to 9:00. Led by Reg Hedley and Nadine Slimmon, about 15 members joined in selling calendars, Starvathon, skating, carolling, skiing, library tea, a Sunrise Easter service, pancake breakfast and a Oak Lake camping trip. Proceeds support a Foster Child and Mission and Service. First meeting September 26 at 7:30.

Manitobans back Jerry Lewis Telethon pledge drive
Manitobans pledged 185466 by telephone plus 45000 from events and corporate donations for the Jerry Lewis Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy over Labour Day weekend. The Canada total reached 2604948 with the U S and Canada exceeding last year by 2.5 million. funds stay in Canada for patient services research and equipment.

Nomination Day Nears in Miniota Rural Municipality
Nomination day for Reeve and Councillors is October 5, 1983. Incumbents Jack Hanlin Tom Stewart Jim Milne Gerald Shier and Larry Walker plan to seek another term.
