Community notice explains free collection of hazardous household products on Wednesday October 4 1989 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at the Municipal Office Fire Hall. Bring pesticides insecticides antifreeze cleaners paints solvents old paint and batteries separate containers label clearly and keep products in original packaging. Youth Choir selects local students for Western Manitoba cohort
Kristen McDonald Michelle Sheane and Chris Brown from this area are chosen to join the 1989 Western Manitoba Youth Choir. The 45 singers rehearse at Riding Mountain Center September 14–17 and October 5–8, then tour October 21–25 with a Tenth Anniversary Celebration Choir.

Hamiota approves new handicap transit rates
The Hamiota Handi Transit Committee approved new rates effective September 1, 1989. In town one way $1.00, return $2.00, village or RM resident 0.22 per km, mobility disadvantaged resident 0.22 per km with user supplied driver, outside district $1.00 pick up plus 0.62 per loaded km. Users must arrange their own attendant if assistance is needed.

Miracle rescue: Micah Crandall survives grain burial in Manitoba
On September 2 a grain truck slide buried Micah Crandall. Robin, Fran Davison, and the mother freed him as RCMP Constables Spenser and Schurr assisted. Medical staff at Hamiota Hospital and Brandon ICU treated him and he recovered quickly. The family credits prayer and divine intervention.
