Rivers Seed Plant Accepts Cree Grant for Rivers Facility

The Hon. Marcel Lessard announced October 8 that the Farmers' Co op Seed Cleaning Plant will receive 161000 in incentives to build a new seed plant at Rivers. A sod-turning is planned October 28 with federal provincial and municipal officials. The plant aims to operate by March 1976 to meet spring seed needs and will create jobs while handling foundation registered certified and commercial seed. It is owned by 900 Manitoba members serving farmers within a 40 mile radius. The incentive covers 25 percent of capital costs estimated at 635000 plus 15 percent of incremental wages and salaries about 15200, under the Regional Economic Expansion Act.

The Canadian National Institute for the Blind asks for financial help to support its multi service program. It notes newly blinded Manitobans may need basic daily living skills and realistic job training before returning to community life. CNIB canvassers from Hamiota Lions Club will conduct house to house calls on Wednesday November 5.

Birdtail River School Division No. 38 held a board meeting October 23 1975 at 8 p.m. with trustees Waddell Huberdean Tolton Lewycky Armitage Bunn Rapley Cheptuik Kreager Falloon and Director Roy White present. Items included correspondence from teachers association and regional bodies, facility use approvals, resignations, policy manual development, and actions on a bus garage purchase and personnel living allowances.

Chumah Ladies Club Holds October Meeting

The Chumah Ladies Club met at Esther Nett’s home on October 15 with 17 members and 1 guest. Group 1 led the session. readings focused on Thanksgiving. Jean Brooks of Hamiota spoke on physical fitness. A lunch followed as Betty Smith and helpers hosted the event.

Birdtail River Fine Arts Festival Classes Listed

Hamiota announces the Birdtail River Fine Arts Festival from November 4 to 7 offering competitive and noncompetitive classes. Events include speech, choirs, solo items, drama club piece, folk and square dancing, gymnastics, and original student poetry. Judy Acheson of Winnipeg adjudicates, with Jim Belford from Manitoba University judging folk dancing. Programs available.

Ceramic Club Reorganizes In Hamiota Meeting

The Ceramic Club held its reorganization meeting on October 14 in the Community Room with 10 members present. The treasurer's report and last meeting minutes were read. Inza Houck presented class materials. Classes begin Monday November 27 at the usual times.

CGIT Meets at Oak River Adds Four Members

The CGIT reorganization meeting at Oak River raised membership to ten with four new girls. Officers for the year include President Jocelyn Hayhurst, Vice Diana Paddock, Secretary Janis Hamilton, Treasurer Dawn Kirkpatrick. The group's first project is a Rag Drive.
