Ice Capades Comes to Brandon with British Charm and Laughter

Ice Capades opens at Key stone Centre in Brandon for three performances on Monday November 3 and Tuesday November 4. Canadian World Champion Karen Magnussen headlines with a cast of skating clowns and novelty acts including Jean-Pierre Acemano Wes and Chris, Titch Stock Don Yontz, the Romano family and Johnny Pufnstuf. W I Meeting Held at Mary Little Home

The W I gathered at Mrs. Mary Little's home on October 14 with five members and three visitors. The group recited the Creed, reviewed minutes and treasurer's report, read correspondence, and planned a winter quilt project meeting at Mrs. Mary Thompson's on October 21 to decide pattern and material.

Tree Harvest in Full Swing at PFRA Tree Nursery

Six million deciduous trees are being harvested at the PFRA Tree Nursery in Indian Head Saskatchewan. The crop includes two and a half million caragana and storage of 700,000 ash and 190,000 maple trees, with Russian olive and Siberian elm to follow. Spring lifting will ship trees to Manitoba and Saskatchewan farmers for shelterbelt use, first come first served. conifers harvested before spring shipment. The meeting adjourned after a program on mental health and a song contest chaired by Mrs Mabel Wright and lunch by Mrs Mary Litle.

Hamiota W I Discusses Fitness In October Meeting

The Women’s Institute met October 7 in the community room with Mrs. Ward presiding in Mrs. A Morris’s absence. Eighteen members attended and shared quotations on Physical Fitness. Treasurer Hazlewood reported 123.92 in bank and plans for a bake sale.

The Canadian National Institute for the Blind asks for financial support to aid its Manitoba multi service program. Newly blinded individuals need basic daily living skills and realistic job training before returning to their communities. Hamiota Lion's Club canvassers will visit homes on Wednesday, November 5.

Thanksgiving Service Well Attended at United Church

A well attended Thanksgiving service was held at United Church on October 9 with Mrs. D. Patterson at organ and Mrs. F. Angus singing a solo. Scripture Luke 17 was read and messages urged gratitude for small things. An offering of 46 dollars supported the M& and Fund with a closing benediction by Mrs. F. Paddock.
