Hamiota Hospital District Ladies Aid Meets

The Hamiota Hospital District No 7A Ladies Aid assembled in the community room on Friday October 24 with Mrs Wm Hedley presiding. Eight districts were represented and donations for the hospital pantry were brought. Plans included a blood donor clinic on November 13 in the elementary school aiming for 300 bottles and a hospital conference in Fort Garry Hotel November 20–21.

Birdtail River 38 Board Holds Oct 23 1969 Meeting

The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 trustees met at Shoal Lake on October 23 1969 at 8 00 p m. Present were Fulton Rapley Armitage But cher Hames Hyndman Falloon Lewycky Selby and Waddell. Motions included approving minutes of October 16 1969 and various tenders payments and adjournment to November 6 1969.

Decker United Church Marks 35th Anniversary

The Decker United Church celebrated its thirty fifth anniversary on Sunday October 26 1969. Speaker J D Quinton longtime secretary treasurer reflected on life from the pulpit shifting from choir bass to the front. Arthur Knight read an appreciation address and Robert Sunley presented a desk set with bronze cross. Congregation greeted him with handshakes then a social hour in the basement.

Auxiliary Meet at Oak River Holds Charity and Plans

Twenty one members and two visitors attended the Ladies Auxiliary meeting led by President Grace Bullock. Mrs Espey reported cards sent, a $50 Fay Congden scholarship awarded for top marks, and plans for Dow alatek wedding and the Poppy Tea on November 8. Door prize won by Betty White. Lunch served by Mrs Tweed and Yim V. Mos srachan.

Hamiota C.G.I.T. Holds First Meetings Responding to New Members

The Hamiota C.G.I.T. opened September 24 at 8:30 p.m. in Chumah Hall with three new teachers Linda Mathison Audrey Kirk and Sheila Kirk. Thirty seven members enrolled Maureen Hazlewood is president Leslee Pedlow secretary Wendy Stevens treasurer Sally Robinson and Cheryl McMillan pianists. A second meeting October 1 featured an opening party and church Thanksgiving decorations. The October 15 gathering included initiation for first year girls and a Halloween dance planned for November 8.

Beatrice Whyte of Kenton Dies after Long Illness

Funeral service held at Kenton United Church at 2 00 p m October 22 for Beatrice Clara Whyte died October 18 in Hamiota Hospital after a long illness Born January 26 1916 on a farm near Oakner educated at Oakner worked in Hamiota store married John M Whyte June 3 1950 of Kenton survived by husband son Craig daughters Sharon Loree Darice sister Mrs M F White Calgary and relatives Pallbearers and flower bearers named Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.

Anniversary Celebrated for J A and Mrs Smith in Hamiota

A diamond wedding anniversary observance took place Monday October 27 1969 at the J A Smith home in Hamiota. Dignitaries sent telegrams including the Queen and Prime Minister Trudeau. About 135 guests from Smiley Sask Winnipeg Brandon Decker Rapid City Isabella and Hartney attended.

Graduation Night Honors Hamiota Collegiate Students

Hamiota Collegiate held its tenth annual Graduation Scholarship and Award Night on October 25 1969 before a crowd of over three hundred. The program listed Grade 9 to Grade 12 awards including General Proficiency scholarships, subject awards for English, Mathematics, Science and more, plus university entrance distinctions and bursaries from The Robinsons Store and The Canadian Legion.
