The Canadian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service announces a donor clinic in Hamiota on Thursday November 13 to collect 300 bottles. The drive emphasizes that only people can donate, supported by local volunteer groups and hospital staff to provide supplies for operations and emergency care.
Fifteen briefs were heard by the Boundaries Commission in Collegiate Auditorium Hamiota on October 29. Remi Lafreniere chaired six commissioners with two staff and over four hundred attendees as communities weighed proposed school district boundary changes and funding, some opposing while others urged builds and adjustments.
Mr and Mrs James Hudson Anderson of Oakner hosted a wedding party at North Hill Motel Brandon on November first for their silver wedding anniversary. About thirty friends from Oakner Oak River Hamiota Winnipeg MacGregor Brandon and Neepawa attended. A mock wedding with Bernice Davidson as Parson featured Lorne Gregorash as bride William Sutchings as groom and Phillip Arthur as father of the bride.
The McConnell 4-H Beef Club met October 28 1969 in the McConnell Community room with 27 members, five new members: Clayton Currah Dienna Mathison Irene Thompson Dale McConnell and Wendel McConnell. Officers elected were President Ross Mathison Vice President Larry Paterson Secretary Darryl Boyd Treasurer Alan Wright Reporter Kim McConnell. Leader for the year is Bruce Paterson with Jack Boyd and Don McConnell assisting. The annual banquet is set for November 30 with a committee led by Ross Mathison Clayton Brown Darryl Boyd Elaine McConnell and Carol Parker.
Mrs Julian of Morden visited with her mother Mrs T Bom ford recently. Mrs F Gardham spent 12 days in Winnipeg visiting with her daughter and family and attended her granddaughter’s wedding at Westminster Church. Frank Palmer and daughter Doris join suite 4. Services will continue to Christmas with rotating ministers at 7 30 p m. Mrs Foxton attended a Decker church anniversary and fowl supper at Isabella on October 28. Our deepest sympathy to Mr and Mrs Vere Little and family. Seventy Halloween callers visited Friday. Regina visitors Mr and Mrs W Collie spent the weekend with Mrs Collie.
Wilfrid Gordon J Thornton died October 19 1969 in London Ontario. Funeral held October 24 in McConnell Bros Chapel, Hamiota burial in family plot. Survived by wife Velma Lawson Thornton, three sons Fred Robert Claire, one daughter Hannah Bruzewitz, two grandsons and three sisters. Rev W D Smith conducted service, Canadian Order of Foresters grave side rites. pallbearers named.
A council meeting of Sub-district 505 was held at 8 p.m. October 27 in the Legion Hall, Newdale. Resolutions for Manitoba Pool Elevators annual meeting were read and discussed. Gregor Jamieson of Virden and McAuley and Wallace Fraser of Hamiota addressed the gathering as District 5 director nominees.
A Hamiota Figure Skating Club meeting on October 31, 1969 elected Alma Dixon as president and Bernice Lewis as secretary-treasurer. Instructor Mrs. Dick Fogarty outlined the National Skating Test Programme and private lessons, with fees 3.00 per pupil. Lessons start when ice is ready, 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays and Wednesdays after- noon. new skaters welcome.
