Birdtail River S. D. No. 38 Board Meeting At Shoal Lake

The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 held its regular meeting in Shoal Lake on October 16 1969 at 8 00 p m. Trustees Fulton Rapley Armitage Butcher Hames Hyndman Falloon Lewycky Randell Selby and Waddell attended. Motions approved minutes of Oct 9 1969 and by law 12 1969 for RS land purchases. Transportation routes and pay adjustments were reviewed and adjourned for Oct 21 1969. An addendum covered sports transport policies secretary staffing guidance and reporting form reductions.

Morris McGregor Elected President of Highway 83 Association

Morris McGregor MLA for Virden was elected president of the U S Canada Highway 83 Association at the convention in McCook Nebraska last week. Next year’s gathering will be in Virden with 500 to 1000 delegates expected. topics included border customs 24 hour operation and a promotional film. delegates from Virden included Mayor H J McNeill Norm Hemstad and C H Webster.

Decker U C W Holds October Meeting at Mrs Lints Home

The Decker U C W met with fourteen members and one guest at the home of Mrs. Harvey Lints. Mrs. Hunter opened with a thought for the day as Group 1 led worship and readings on gratitude. Plans were made to send jams and vegetables to Osborne Home Neepawa and to cater a golden wedding anniversary dinner on November 15.

Annual H C I awards night planned in Hamiota

The Hamiota Collegiate plans an awards night on Saturday October 25 at 8 p m in the Hamiota Collegiate Auditorium to honor about seventy students for the 1968 69 academic year. Over 1100 in scholarships bursaries medals and certificates will be distributed. There is no division graduation this year, and diplomas will be presented to last year’s graduates by board representatives.

CGIT Reorganizes Decker Members Named Officers

The Decker CGIT held its reorganized meeting on October 15 at the church basement from 5 to 7 pm. Officers for the coming year were nominated: Beverley Brooks president, Linda Sunley vice president, Debbie Sunley secretary, Barbara Lints treasurer, Cheryl Decker reporter, Wanda Sunley organist, and Beth Stewart. Leaders are Mrs. Gerald Decker and Mrs. Lloyd Stewart. three new members joined Jackie Bailey Patsy Knight and Connie Davis. The next meeting will be a basket supper on October 29 with invited guests and UNCLEF collections.

Tea Held for Mrs Pangman at McConnell House

The WA and U C W co hosted a surprise tea at Mrs Mac Hamiltons home to honor Mrs H Pangman whose gardening interest helped renew grounds and flower beds around McConnell Church and Hall. Mrs George Pollock pinned a corsage on Dot and led her to a chair among the guests. Mrs J Wright read the address and Dot received a jewelry gift before the hostess served refreshments.

MPE SD 504 Holds Annual Meeting

The Annual meeting of Sub district 504 was held October 13 at Miniota. All councillors were present, also Gregor Jamieson, Bob Richardson and Bill McQuaker. Four nominations were considered for delegate with John A. Wythe of Miniota elected for a 2 year term and Glen Bridge of Lavinia chosen for a 1 year term.

UCW Meeting Highlights Poverty Discussion

The October UCW meeting met in the church annex with worship led by Mrs. R Hedley. Mrs E Newton and Mrs H Paterson spoke on poverty outlining where it touches and the problems faced. A Q and A followed and members were reminded to bring items for the December Christmas gathering. the November meeting will be at Mrs J Emerson’s home on November 4 at 2 p.m.

Ladies Club Meet Thanksgiving Session

The Ladies Club met at Mrs. Pearl Kidd’s home on Wednesday evening October 15 with seventeen members and one visitor. Mrs. Myra Preston led the devotional on Thanksgiving, assisted by Mesdames Houck Bernice Lewis and Pearl Kidd. Mrs. Houck presided as president for the business, reports from committees were given, and the evening ended with a social half hour of contests and lunch. Hostesses were Mesdames Pearl Kidd Viola Kirk Bernice Lewis and Myra Preston.

Messengers Convene to Name 1969-70 Officers

The Messengers of Crandall Isabella and Decker meet to approve the 1969-70 slate. Officers include President Kevin Bray and Secretary Judy Strachan, with aims to ease parental costs and increase mite boxes. The study book is The Land of Tender Toes.
