Schools eye second vote on single district divisions
Education officials report seven divisions show active interest in a second vote to establish single district divisions. Deadline for petitions is November 6 with voting around December 15. Divisions must secure a 35 percent petition and 86 percent district resolutions. minister Johnson notes possible minor percentage variances due to total context. Birdtail River Division joins. seventeen of eighteen boards favor the vote. Petitions circulate this week and boards will canvass residents.

Hamiota Boys Win Zone Fastball Honors
On October 10 the Elphinstone boys and girls teams travelled to Hamiota for the Zone fastball finals. The Hamiota boys beat Elphinstone 25 11, while the girls game ended 15 14 after a close last at bat, sending the Hamiota team toward provincial playoffs in spring.

Hamiota Curling Club Holds Semi Annual Meeting
The Hamiota Curling Club met October 23 1967 with 40 members present. Nels Kreager chaired, Al Robertson was secretary. A vacuum cleaner costing 350 was approved as was a wire and hair cleaning brush. Sunday supervision of the rink is planned 2 to 4 pm. Bonspiel set for last Monday in February. fees remain 16 per rink. Curling fees stay at 25. A $2100 bingo profit was reported from last summer.

Robert Bell 1925 North Bay Man Dies In Collision
Robert Craig Bell aged 53 of 482 Main St West North Bay Ontario died October 18 in a two car head on crash one mile west of Sturgeon Falls. He served in the Navy during World War II and worked at Bomar Base and Ontario Hospital. He leaves a wife Evelyn Brad three daughters Sandra Linda Kathy three sons Donald Harold Raymond his parents and seven siblings. Three men were appointed co chairmen of highways minister Walter Weir as he seeks leadership of the Manitoba Progressive Conservative party. They are G. A. Keates president of Manitoba Cantage and Storage Gordon Lawson vice president of James Richardson and Sons J Nicholas Mandziuk MP for Marquette who has served since 1957. Vandals damage traffic signs and trees near Miniota high school
The Hamota detachment of the RCM Police report early October 15 as about 29 traffic signs in Miniota were ripped out and damaged. One orbit was burned and Centennial trees on the high school grounds were run over and damaged. Five persons have been charged. Police say Halloween is no excuse for property damage.

Gospel Chapel Women Honor Miss Audrey Currah
The Gospel Chapel Women staged a surprise shower for Audrey Currah the October 21 pride elect. Friends gathered at Mrs Munshaws home on Friday the 13th as Audrey arrived corsages were pinned on Audrey Mrs Currah and Mrs Gurr. Beatrice Peterson addressed and Beatrice Paterson sang Jesus Leads. Grant Daum appeared as a farmer and Merrilyn Miller as a hospital worker presenting gifts and humorous milking skit. Audrey expressed thanks and the evening ended with a dainty lunch.

Decker Community Rink Holds Annual Meeting
The Decker Community Rink held its annual meeting at Decker Hall with President Ray Lints presiding. Minutes and the financial statement were read and approved.
