Soil testing pays off for Roy Loewen farm
Roy Loewen and family near Steinbach credit a decade of soil tests for reshaping their fertilizer use. A spring test suggested zero nitrogen for one field, yet a light drill fertilized seasonally produced 3.8 tonnes per hectare of barley. They save about 50 cents per acre and two percent of the fertilizer bill, while avoiding over or under fertilization.
