Seminar Planned at Brandon on Exporting Manitoba Goods

Farmers bankers and exporters will meet at the Agricultural Extension Centre in Brandon on Wednesday Oct 15 for a one day seminar on expanding exports of Manitoba agricultural products. Co sponsored by Agriculture Canada Manitoba Agriculture Canadian Bankers Association and federal department of industry trade and commerce. Registration is free.

MPE Official Opening at Quadra

Manitoba Pool officials travel to Quadra near Brandon on October 23 to open a new high through put elevator. The precast concrete and steel design tests future elevator construction with larger bins and longer spans, including a 170000 bushel capacity, aeration, Uniflo Cleaner, a 60 tonne scale, and 6 000 bushel per hour legs. Warren Shewfelt manages the facility serving producers north of Virden south of Birtle and west of Oakner.

Manitoba allocates extra 2.5 million for forest fire costs

Manitoba Natural Resources Minister Brian Ransom announced an additional 2.5 million to cover forest fire suppression costs through September 30, 1980. Dry spring and summer boosted fires to 1,073 events covering 603,300 hectares, with total suppression costs at 9.4 million. Four fires remain, three under control, as weather conditions dictate further action.

Education Minister Keith Cosens announces Marjorie Law of Winnipeg appointed to the University of Winnipeg board of regents to finish the term of Ian Jessiman who resigned. Her term runs until June 30 1982.

FarmScene Examines Ammoniated Straw on Manitoba TV

Manitoba viewers will see FarmScene at 4:00 p.m. Sunday October 19 on CKY stations. The program visits a Fraserwood farm where livestock specialists show wrapping large round straw bales for ammonia treatment, a non protein nitrogen boost with caveats. A second feature covers hydrogen sulfide dangers in barns and dispersion methods.

Community Festival of Crafts at Brandon University

The 8th Annual Community Festival of Crafts returns October 19 from 1 to 5 PM at Brandon University. Free admission plus refreshments and activities for all ages. Local and visiting crafters showcase quilts from traditional to contemporary plus 40 other crafts, a live quilt project, cartoon drawing demo, babysitting, and a Book Sale by the University Women’s Club to raise scholarship funds.

Income Tax Course Attracts the Budget Conscious

A R Tax Schools in Winnipeg offers an income tax preparation course teaching up to date methods. A survey shows 97 percent of graduates recovered tuition costs, with many earning fees from preparing returns. The school began in 1972 to train tax preparers and serves urban and rural Canadians including distant students across Canada.
