Winnipeg notices mark October 15 as the effective date for Liquor Control Act amendments. The changes allow parents to provide alcohol to underage children with meals in licensed venues and expand hotel service to serve liquor in rooms and remote hotel areas.
The W I meeting in Hamiota on October 5 drew 25 attendees. Treasurer reported $156.03 on hand. Members heard about the District Board meeting and upcoming events in Kenton Oslo Norway and Hamiota November 15 Mental Health Seminar.
The UCW regular meeting met October 7 at 8 p.m. at Mrs. Charlie Knight’s home. Mrs. Harold Brown and Mrs. Walter Riddell led devotions with readings prayers and hymns. Sixteen members attended the roll call and many submitted Thankoffering envelopes. Topics included local business and an invitation for Mrs. C. M. Anderson’s in November. Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Lloyd Anderson served a bountiful lunch before adjournment.
Howard Pawley warns motorists to mail Autopac applications by October 18 to ensure timely receipt of validated Autopac insurance and license plate stickers. Direct mailing to the Motor Vehicle Branch at 1075 Portage Avenue or visits to branches avoid mail delays, with November 1 as Autopac start date and automatic licence cancellation if no valid sticker.
A miscellaneous shower in the Decker Church lower Auditorium honored Miss Sharen Howell with her chair escort by Mrs. J Wright and Mrs. Howell by Vera Cooke. Karen Wright read the address as gifts arrived with wagon drawn by Randy Lintz. Barbara Lints provided music.
The Zone 10 tournament on October 7 featured Russel Hamiota Elphinstone and Strathclair. Russel beat Strathclair 2 1 Elphinstone defeated Hamiota 4 0 and the losers playoff ended 2 2. Hamiota then beat Russel 3 0 to win the title for the sixth time and advance to provincial playoffs in Winnipeg the weekend of the sixteenth.

The minutes note salaries per the negotiated agreement and set a follow up meeting for October 21 1971 at 6 00 pm with adjournment at 41 15.
