A Winnipeg promotional team announced a Curling School for high school and lady curlers in Hamiota in mid November. Bryan Wood will lead sessions on strategy sweeping ice judging and the motion delivery using a video relay system. Contact Doreen Fraser at 764-2090 by October 15 1971 to reserve a spot for up to 36 students and 48 women.
R N Woods mayor elect by acclamation. Council seats filled: William P Chappell and Harold W McLaren incumbents with Albert H Stevens, ward details for Ward One Charles L Knight Ward Two Earl G Smith Ward Three Alex J Kirk. Elmer P Houck reeve and rural nominees also elected by acclamation.
Craig Stewart MP for Marquette travels to Washington on October 3 to join a committee of four House of Commons members. They will meet U S officials to study American National Park policy and discuss the National Park System, future planning, concessions and facilities. Stewart has opposed Riding Mountain policy and says talks could reveal beneficial lessons.
The United Church of Zambia Africa president will visit Manitoba for Thanksgiving weekend. Rev Jackson Mwape speaks Monday October 11 at 8 p.m. in the Christian Education building United Church Neepawa. The event offers a key chance to study Africa.
The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 held a September 30 1971 meeting with trustees Waddell Butcher Fulton Rapley Hames Lewycky Falloon Hyndman Fouillard Armitage Randell. Items approved include bus route adjustments compacted and expanded routes, roof replacement payments, architect fees, and several school activities and staff hirings for 1971 72 with the assistant superintendent Sawatzky detailing remedial in school programs.
Sixteen local chambers are to be represented at the Action Seminar in Hamiota on October 18. D Mennie, president of the Hamiota Chamber of Commerce, says the one day program offers skills to improve effectiveness. Lorne Seitz and Murray Bater to lead discussions. Don Mennie and company opened a new IGA Super Market on Maple Ave in Hamiota moving from the Jamieson site. The spacious modern store offered well stocked shelves with a friendly slogan. Grandma Arthur and Dorothy Strong placed an order while Bill Miller was the first customer served by Don.

The Home Economics Club reorganized on September 29 at 7:15 p.m. in the Junior High School. Lori Walden was elected president with Sherrie Genung as Vice President Donna Pennington as Secretary Heather McKague as Treasurer and Wendy McCallum as Reporter. Mrs. Frances McKague is leader. Members chose cooking sewing handicraft and self determined projects. Plans include a Hallowe en Tea and Bake Sale and a $10 bill raffle. Next meeting set for November 5 after school.
