Canada World Youth arrives for four week hosting in Hamiota
On October 1 1979 twelve Canadian youths from Nova Scotia Quebec Ontario Manitoba and British Columbia joined 13 Malaysian youths at the Hamiota Bus Depot as hosts for a four week stay in Manitoba. Leaders Brian Proskurniak and Rahman plan weekly recreation and Friday development meetings with 50 other participants placed across Manitoba and in Kenora Ontario.

Manitoba Hydro plans to upgrade distribution lines in the Hamiota area and build a new substation on the current site. The project will replace 370 transformers across Hamiota Oak River Oakner and surrounding farms, salvage the old substation, and cost about 680000 with completion aimed for spring 1980. Hamiota Art Club marks 10th anniversary with cake
Fifteen members of the Hamiota Art Club met at the Library of the Collegiate on a Wednesday in late October to celebrate ten years since the club formed on October 23 1969. Past president Miss Janet Haight brought a surprise cake as Mrs Bessie Houck cut it.
