Chumah Ladies Meet HAMIOTA Centennial Activities Planned
Chumah Ladies Club met October 1 at Bernice Lewis home with 13 members. They discussed Thanksgiving themed worship led by Lewis and Myra Preston, reviewed June minutes, and noted thanks for the year. Betty Smith led the bust portion and a Saskatchewan Aid Fund contribution was decided. They will help at Birch Lodge Tea on October 31 with muffins and workers. Chumah Centennial place mats were reduced to four dollars per set or one dollar each, to clear stock. Peggy Smith and club members were asked to contact for purchases. Members filled a health survey during teatime and lunch. Hostesses were Betty Smith, Myra Preston, and Bernice Lewis.

H C S Cross Country Team Shines In Early Races
Hamilton Cross Country team members competed in four events starting with the Terry Fox Run in Hamiota. The squad then ran a Burlington Beach course, with Birtle Waywayseecappah Shoal Lake Miniota and Hamiota in eight category events. Results crowned Melodie Smith and Mark Robinson champions among others, with Angela Bray Tracy Lyall and Terry Knight achieving high placements. Next came a Jackson Lake meet against Portage Neepawa Minnedosa Gladstone Rivers and Glenboro, producing multiple top finishes. October 6 brought the University of Manitoba Fall Classic 5K ending at Pan Am Stadium. The Zone Championship is Oct 10 in Russell and Provincials Oct 19 near Sidney at Jackson Lake.

School Safety Week Promotes Teen Seatbelt Use
OTTAWA The Canada Safety Council reports only 35 percent of teenage drivers and 40 percent of teenage passengers wear seatbelts, compared with 53.3 percent overall. Coordinator Dr. R A McInenly appeals to parents and teachers to boost belt use during October 17 to 23, noting a 10 percent rise could save over 40 lives annually. The council is studying reasons teens neglect seatbelts.
