Canada urged to stand firm on farm supply management
Cynthia Currie of the Canadian Chicken Marketing Agency urged Canada to keep supply management intact during GATT talks in Geneva. She spoke at the Alberta Chicken Producers Marketing Board conference, noting Alberta’s 240 producers yield 46.6 million kg annually, as Ottawa proposes tariff cuts and Article XI reforms. Currie warned of last minute pressure to dismantle protections, stressing a balanced, export-subsidy free approach backed by six national groups.
