Agriculture Minister Jim Downey predicts Manitoba net farm income will hit 410 million in 1980, up 20.1 percent from 1979, despite drought reducing crop production. Total farm cash receipts may reach 1,476.7 million, with higher crop and livestock sales offset by rising farm costs.
Manitoba generated 1 684.6 million kWh in October 1980, up 2 percent from October 1979. For the year ending October 31, 1980 generation fell 3.8 percent from the prior 12 months. Water power accounted for 99.7 percent in October, 77.7 percent from the Nelson River. for the year 98.9 percent was water power with 74.7 percent from the Nelson River. Consumption rose 3.3 percent in October 1980, while the 12 month consumption declined 2.2 percent. Energy used locally was 60.8 percent of generation, rising to 64.8 percent for the 12 months. Surplus energy was sold: 21 percent to Ontario, 3 percent to Saskatchewan, 76 percent to the U.S.
Attorney General Gerry Mercier announced Nelson Smith McLean of Shoal Lake as a magistrate. He succeeds Peter Henry Funk, who resigned after relocating to Winnipeg.
Manitoba farmers in the Green Feed program have until November 30 to have fields inspected to avoid winter inspections. The program offers $15 per acre for registered forage crops and a $15 per ton incentive for hay sold stored in Manitoba, with 8,274 farmers registering 15,148 fields and 696,887 acres by the July deadline. estimated total payments reach about $10 million.

Manitoba ministers report Ottawa unilaterally ends the Community Services Contribution Program despite municipal pressure. More than 50 municipalities urged a review. the CSC P consolidated three programs to cut costs and coordinate funding, with 1981 projects in limbo as plans for renewal were underway.
The Consumers' Association of Canada opens a new Consumer Help office at 220 8th Street Brandon to assist area residents with problems complaints or general information about consumer issues.
Manitoba will pay an extra 308.3 million to Ottawa over 30 years due to the federal petroleum compensation charge. For the current year November 1 to March 31, Manitoba expects 15.4 million in additional payments.
