Brandon University to propose School of Nursing with integrated diploma degree

Brandon University will submit a formal proposal to the Universities Grants Commission by December 1 1980 to create a School of Nursing integrating diploma Registered Nursing, psychiatric nursing preparation and degree nurse training. The plan, supported by Brandon General Hospital and Brandon Mental Health Centre, aims for a 1982 implementation if approved.

Anti-Theft Program Underway

The RCP, Winnipeg, and Brandon Police Departments run an anti vehicle theft program across Manitoba from November 17 to 30. The campaign urges owners to lock vehicles to deter theft, reduce juvenile crime, and improve highway safety by preventing accidents and loss of life.

Welfare rates rise in Manitoba as costs climb

Manitoba Community Services Minister George Minaker announced a 10 percent welfare increase effective January 1, 1981. The higher rates cover food, clothing, personal needs, household supplies and board and lodging for recipients including mothers allowances and long term disabled, with rent and utilities also rising. The projected annual cost is about 2.8 million dollars, shared with the federal government, as provincial rolls stand at 18,962 on September 30, 1980, down from 19,282 in 1979.

Provincial Directory Delivers New Manitoba Listings

Distribution of the Provincial Telephone Directory begins November 5 to about 210,000 Manitoba Telephone System customers. The 1980 81 issue adds 64 pages to 1,248 and 192,000 listings with 560 white and 672 yellow pages plus a 16 page blue section for governments. 277,000 copies printed with Souris bridge on the cover. customers urged to discard old copies to avoid misdials.
