Fire destroys Oak River Memorial Rink in weekend blaze
Oak River residents awoke to a total disaster as the Oak River Memorial Rink, long a community hub, burned to rubble. Fire officials say no arson evidence yet, with a similar blaze at Riverdale Golf and Country Club nearby nine hours later. the rink and nearby structures were leveled in under two hours.

Talent West District Finals Set After Hamiota Contest
Kristen McDonald of Hamiota won first prize in the Talent West Contest sponsored by the Hamiota Co op on November 13 1987. The 13 year old singer advances to district finals in Saskatoon March 1988. Sylvia and Jennifer Hanlin were second with a singing duet. a four person group including Chris Brown Brian Martinussen Bryan Houck and Carey Knight placed third. District finals are November 20 1987 at 8 00 p m in the Hamiota Collegiate Auditorium.

Inaugural Meeting Sets Rolling River Board Roles
The Rolling River School Division Board held its first meeting on November 5 1987 electing Dick Heapy as chairman for a ninth term and Meryl McKeand as vice chairwoman. Committees were formed with named chairs and salary increases for 1987 were approved for non union staff plus trustee indemnities and meeting allowances. The new Onanole School opening was scheduled for November 23 1988.
