Manitoba ministers announce rural telephone service meetings

Minister Gary Doer and Minister Bill Uruski will hold public meetings on rural telephone service across fourteen Manitoba communities starting November 16. Bible Society meets at Hamiota Branch in church

The Hamiota Bible Society annual meeting was held November 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pentecostal Church. Attendance rose from 18 to 32. Rev. Vibe from Winnipeg spoke, noting Bible distribution in Russia and printing in China with help from five countries aiming for one million copies. Bert Gurr presided and presented a $1,600 cheque.

MSOS elects Rankin to Westman board at Hamiota meeting

The Manitoba Senior Citizens Organization board welcomes Gertrude Rankin of Hamiota as a new Westman delegate and director at large. John Rankin serves as Past President as the board grows from 38 to 37 directors, with membership up from 8000 to 10000.

Explorers Host Halloween Party at Miniota United Church

The Explorers held a Halloween party at Miniota United Church on October 28 1987 at 7 PM. Twenty three guests and nine Explorers wore costumes and walked through a haunted tunnel. Elsie Dickerson read a Halloween story. Explorer girls sang Who has seen the Ghost of John.

Pythian Sisters Host Christmas Card Sale and Hamper Draw

Pythian Sisters of Kenton Alpha Temple 12 announce the Community Christmas Greeting Card sale with raffled Christmas Dinner Hamper including a ten pound turkey and festive items. Proceeds go to the Kenton Rink Renovation Fund with the draw set for the weekend of December 18 19. A correction notes Brother Charles Finnie P G O G was omitted from a Grand Lodge officers list and thanks are given to Hugh Cormack for providing his father Isaac Cormack’s Knights of Pythias history.

Judy Rowan Receives Multiple Brandon College Scholarships

Judy Rowan in her final year of the Brandon College Education Course received several awards at the Convocation Exercises on Saturday November 2. The McDowell Scholarship in Canadian History for second year, the Peter Dobson Memorial Scholarship, the Clark Memorial for Pre School Education, and a Residence Scholarship recognized her academic achievements. She is the daughter of Neil and Lorna Rowen.
