Arts Council Plans Wide Year Of Arts Events And Workshops
The Mid-West Arts Council schedules diverse workshops and public events for the coming year. Rick McNair performed storytelling at Miniota Community Hall on Nov 9, with Mary Taylor assisting. Committees plan quilting, doll making, dance, pottery, calligraphy, and writers workshops. Public events include Strathclair Theatre Chorus, Braemar Dancers, Fubuki Daiko, and Brandon Community Orchestra. The Heritage Arts Centre will host arts displays after renovations at the former Royal Bank building in Hamiota. Funding comes from events like the flea market and Tea at the Bank. Presentation on Power of Attorney at Lilac Residence
Jeffery McConnell, Manitoba lawyer and Libby McConnell's grandson, spoke at Lilac Residence on Nov 4 about Power of Attorney POA. He warned that without a POA a court-appointed committee may be needed every two years at great cost. The bank POA forms are limited to bank transactions only. He noted Manitoba POA forms are enduring and valid if the client becomes mentally incompetent. He urged appointing a trusted Manitoba resident, preferably younger, and allowing two persons to act together or in sequence. POA lasts a lifetime with the executor taking over after death. Costs for POA drafting are modest and can prevent future problems.
