Snowfall Dampens Attendance at Birtle Mini School
In Birtle on November 8 the Southwest A Mini School sponsored by the Birtle Women’s Institute drew about 30 attendees, with only four of 22 institutes represented. The day featured demonstrations on Christmas arrangements, a writing for media session, nutrition talks, and a panel on public versus private schooling, with broad discussions and parenting views.

40th Anniversary Celebrated at Oak River Memorial Rink
In Oak River on November 6 the Oak River Memorial Rink hosted Stan and Jean Henry for their 40th anniversary. Friends gathered as Vi Smith’s orchestra played, a cake echoed the original wedding cake, and 245 guests signed the guest book. A toast by Lynn Smith, remarks by Stan, and a buffet lunch capped the evening.

Miniota Hosts River Arts Festival Final Day Concert
The Birdtail River Fine Arts Festival concluded with a Friday concert in Miniota. Competitors traveled from Kenton Shoal Lake Strathclair Hamiota Newdale and Miniota for nine sessions across four days in dance baton gymnastics spoken poetry public speaking Bible reading speech choirs and Reader's theatre. Adjudicators included Lorraine Scott Elkhorn for dance gym baton and Patricia Yates Virden for speech arts. Winners included Cathy Stevens Dale Little and Hamiota Grade 9 choir with many trophies and medallions awarded to participants from Hamiota Miniota Shoal Lake and other towns.
