Manitoba declares November 11 a non working day with schools closed and essential services only. Businesses may operate with Remembrance Day Act permits. liquor stores closed. entertainment starts after 1 PM. workers may apply in writing two weeks ahead for emergency permits.
Manitoba funds announced to select and train its 291 athletes, coaches and managers for the 1981 Canada Summer Games in Thunder Bay August 9 to 22. Seventeen sports share $50,000 with a minimum of $100 per athlete or coach. The Games run biennially since 1967 with 3,000+ athletes from ten provinces and two territories competing.
Winnipeg meeting of six provinces including Newfoundland Quebec Prince Edward Island Alberta British Columbia and Manitoba agreed to refer the unilateral federal move to change the constitution to the Courts of Appeal in Newfoundland Quebec and Manitoba. The six attorneys general will file constitutional references once documents are prepared and questions drafted by cabinets.

Agriculture Minister Jim Downey announces Manitoba’s first commemorative 4 H Club Week from November 10 to 17. He praises the 4 H movement for shaping rural youth across Manitoba and Canada since its 1913 origins in Roland.
Shoal Lake hosts a women's Model Parliament in the Legislative Buildings on November 15. Manitoba women will speak on chosen topics, question speakers, and debate an education bill. Premier Sterling Lyon announced the fifth session of Manitoba's 31st Legislature will open Thursday December 11 in Brandon. The throne speech debate should be completed before Christmas, with certain legislation introduced, then resumed in the new year for estimates and budget work.
